fair summary apart from the generally impressive bit. Myth had it Glasgow knew how to win these games, while Edinburgh still don't. I guess lack of pre season games for too many players, but too many of those same players spending too much time with Edinburgh players on the summer tour toldCameo wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 3:30 am So you can pick up the ball while on your knees and place it over the tryline now? Something we should work on. More seriously, though, I think the protecting the 9 thing leads to all sorts of confusion. Seen several times this weekend where a defending player has rucked through but because the attacking player bends down and touches the ball, there is nothing he can do for fear of giving away a penalty. I am also sick of refs spotting attacking players holding defenders and just telling them to let go. Penalise them otherwise there is no disincentive. At least one half break in that final phase came from holding off the ball.
Apart from that whine, Glasgow looked decent but will be kicking themselves for not finishing their chances.
Otherwise, generally impressive

Yeah that last try was weird and I agree with the confusion around when a 9 is playable or not. Too many scenarios where it just isn't clear or they're playing under different rules due to a shirt number the opposition can't even see.
Certainly looked like Glasgow should have put that one out of sight already though.

Richie Gray to leave Glasgow at end of November.. To take up an opportunity to play abroad.
I suspect Japan but who knows.
So before the European campaign starts we lose a key player.

Oh and it's leaked but apparently they want to play the home leg of the 1872 at Hampden. Seems they don't want anyone to see it

Bigger ground, bigger crowd.
Shame about Richie Gray but makes sense. Scotland needs to be moving on anyway and Glasgow have some good young locks.

My comment may have been a shade too cryptic or cynical.
Such are the shit low rakes of the stands and distance from the pitch that no-one will be able to see a game at Hampden. It's truly shit.

but very strong rumours that Alex Craig will replace Richie, with immediate effect
Bad news is Richie has apparently already played his last game for Warriors at Scotstoun, so no farewell from fans. Will be in SA for Warriors matches after this week

Fucking hell. You’ll do well to take anything from this match. Richardson not even on the bench which is bad news for Scotland.

Bit funny that. 2 bonus pionts isn't a bad outcome, but they were in that and could easily have won with a bit more accuracy at key moments.

Only saw highlights, that dodgy pen after the Darge turnover, from which Stormers scored, looked like a massive moment.
Still good to come away with 2.
Any word on Ollie Smith? Had a brief look and just found articles from December ‘23 estimating 8-12 months. So surely he’s close by now?

Re: The Glasgow Carpet Burns and Cary Grant Appreciation Thread
Well that was great.
Made it hard for themselves early with a few big lineout misses, but second half they really turned the screw (most of a new pack came on at or just after half time). Hastings was decent but Jordan made a massive impact when he came on including with a touchline conversion and a huge 50-22. He just looks confident and assured. I think we might have to find a spot for him in the 23.
Kyle Rowe was also great. His chip along the touchline for the third (I think) try was exquisite.
Probs wrong to mention Tiupuloto last, but he had one of his best games. Connecting with Jones and others with his short passing, breaking the line, long passes, he's got it all.

TBF to Stormers they were missing a few big names, but a clear deserved win for Glasgow.Cameo wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 8:46 am Well that was great.

Line out malfunctioned too much, again. But beyond that too many really good, composed performances all over the park to fairly single out anyone. Smith is a very smart coach. It looks obvious to change your pack at HT in 27 degrees, but it is a risk; or would be if the players were not all so well drilled and given rein to play. terrific squad effort
As you mention Rowe can I just say he is excellent under the high ball, his kick chase excellent, he can kick, long or grubber, defence - tackling and positioning really really good on the wing or at FB, proper pace; but the bonus ball is is awareness and ability to pass having created the half break.
Edinburgh can play in the orange of the 70s Dutch soccer total football team - in the shirts but not like them in any other way. Kyle Rowe in present form is the total player, total rugby footballer

Sione Tuipulotu has sign a new 3 year contract
Warriors fans either delighted, surprised or relieved. Or mainly all three

Hmm. Those ones do feel pretty weird when they leave the country immediately after qualifying.

think the situation will drive this SRU posted another huge loss yesterday after last years - over £20m between the 2 seasons. So skint. Jordan has reputedly had an offer which will be around 6 or 7 times his current deal. what would you do?Mikey Brown wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 12:28 pm Hmm. Not think twice, probably.
Wasn't meaning to sound too judgemental, but it's hard not to notice the timing.
I can imagine him suiting Bristol very well.

The contract timing would be deliberate from all parties and to be fair if he was shite and not resigned, we wouldn't criticise Glasgow.Mikey Brown wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 12:28 pm Hmm. Those ones do feel pretty weird when they leave the country immediately after qualifying.
Obviously don't know what Glasgow offered but the rumoured £300k from Bristol is likely to be a number Glasgow/SRU couldn't get too close to.

Re: The Glasgow Carpet Burns and Cary Grant Appreciation Thread
contracts usually include a step up if you get capped etc, which will have applied even before contract negotiations. But his caps have probably come after negotiations and prior to that £300k is probably 6 times what he is currently on. Re: The Glasgow Carpet Burns and Cary Grant Appreciation Thread
tough one for Warriors tonight v Scarlets. Normally a definite should win at home.
But injuries and 4 AIs mean loads missing.
Still a pretty good back line, but the pack!
A tighthead starting at loosehead, first Warriors start.
Starting tighthead on debut
2 baby locks, one a debutant. No lock cover on bench, no huge back row to step forward if needed
Academy debutant back row on bench
1 hooker starting and 3 hookers on the bench
1 Schickerling 2 Mathews 3 Richardson
4 Oguntibeju 5 Samuel
6 Miller 7 Venter 8 Mann
9 Horne 10 Hastings
11 Cancilliere 12 Jordan 13 McDowell 14 Rowe
15 McKay
bench Stewart Dell Talakai Mackenzie-Duncan Fraser Hiddlestone Dobie Weir

Just heard Hastings took a nasty one (possibly broken jaw?) and will be out for a while. You have to feel for him. Just unbeleivably bad luck with injuries and they don't even seem to be related.
