More seriously, though, I think the protecting the 9 thing leads to all sorts of confusion. Seen several times this weekend where a defending player has rucked through but because the attacking player bends down and touches the ball, there is nothing he can do for fear of giving away a penalty. I am also sick of refs spotting attacking players holding defenders and just telling them to let go. Penalise them otherwise there is no disincentive. At least one half break in that final phase came from holding off the ball.

Apart from that whine, Glasgow looked decent but will be kicking themselves for not finishing their chances.

fair summary apart from the generally impressive bit. Myth had it Glasgow knew how to win these games, while Edinburgh still don't. I guess lack of pre season games for too many players, but too many of those same players spending too much time with Edinburgh players on the summer tour told

Yeah that last try was weird and I agree with the confusion around when a 9 is playable or not. Too many scenarios where it just isn't clear or they're playing under different rules due to a shirt number the opposition can't even see.

Made it hard for themselves early with a few big lineout misses, but second half they really turned the screw (most of a new pack came on at or just after half time). Hastings was decent but Jordan made a massive impact when he came on including with a touchline conversion and a huge 50-22. He just looks confident and assured. I think we might have to find a spot for him in the 23.

Kyle Rowe was also great. His chip along the touchline for the third (I think) try was exquisite.

Probs wrong to mention Tiupuloto last, but he had one of his best games. Connecting with Jones and others with his short passing, breaking the line, long passes, he's got it all.

Line out malfunctioned too much, again. But beyond that too many really good, composed performances all over the park to fairly single out anyone. Smith is a very smart coach. It looks obvious to change your pack at HT in 27 degrees, but it is a risk; or would be if the players were not all so well drilled and given rein to play. terrific squad effort

As you mention Rowe can I just say he is excellent under the high ball, his kick chase excellent, he can kick, long or grubber, defence - tackling and positioning really really good on the wing or at FB, proper pace; but the bonus ball is is awareness and ability to pass having created the half break.
Edinburgh can play in the orange of the 70s Dutch soccer total football team - in the shirts but not like them in any other way. Kyle Rowe in present form is the total player, total rugby footballer

think the situation will drive this SRU posted another huge loss yesterday after last years - over £20m between the 2 seasons. So skint. Jordan has reputedly had an offer which will be around 6 or 7 times his current deal. what would you do?

contracts usually include a step up if you get capped etc, which will have applied even before contract negotiations. But his caps have probably come after negotiations and prior to that £300k is probably 6 times what he is currently on. At least
