Yes. That's what should have happened in 2019. Maybe, even the RFU grandees were afraid of him.Banquo wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 12:02 pmI'd even say three/four years is more than short term....and the appropriate shelf life for most coaches in the same gig tbh. Had we done as we all thought would happen and appoint a new head coach after RWC 2019, it might look quite different; you sometimes need different leadership for different times....crisis mode being different to development etc.

Why do you keep talking about the RFU as if it were still run by 57 old farts out of interest? Its not very well run imo, but the people who make all the decisions are by and large professionals in their field, Chair, CEO, FD etc.Oakboy wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 1:35 pmYes. Funnily enough, the old farts act as a check and balance tho.

That was my thought to. Vitriol seems to lead to some silly revisionism.Banquo wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 12:02 pm

Not really… 2018 was an absolute car crash with an even worse winning ratio than this year!Mr Mwenda wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 2:12 pmThat was my thought to. Vitriol seems to lead to some silly revisionism.Banquo wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 12:02 pm

His short term success was turning around the “too nice” mentality post Lancaster and a real run of successes.
Then the wheels firmly fell off. That was when some of the SH gang were telling us “told you”…
But there was then another turnaround “judge me on the RWC” which to be fair he way over delivered on vs expectations.
And then the wheels fell off again!

I was actually quite excited for this game in the buildup, but 24 minutes in it feels a bit pointless.

Do we a) work on our attacking plays and go with width and not use the forwards as much or do we b) empty the bench and let the youngsters get a half/most of a half.
That's also bloody awful defence from Slade for the Japan try. Steps out the line but doesn't blitz and just leaves a big hole.

Our basic catch pass is really quite poor. I mean we’re playing a team with just over 200 caps between them and we look really laboured ball in hand; unless Smith just plays what he sees and creates the space.
Defence is utterly atrocious still.

Japan are pretty dire. Some nice play from the wingers and Lawrence looks good with some room. What the fuck are we doing in defence.

Can’t make head or tail of this. Defence looks a shambles, Japan 2nd tier and Sleiightholme’s hair is just ridiculous

It looks to me like individuals are having good moments in individual moments. Shape wise were a mess.
Defence is an absolute shambles! It’s horrific at an individual and collective levels!

England just look muddled don't they? There defence seems to have now been worked out by everyone.

I suppose it's that I expect professionals to show good judgement and there is so little evidence of it.Banquo wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 1:57 pmWhy do you keep talking about the RFU as if it were still run by 57 old farts out of interest? Maybe, it will be 'all change' for the 6N. The new defence coach MUST do whatever he believes in.Epaminondas Pules wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 5:07 pmIt looks to me like individuals are having good moments in individual moments. Shape wise were a mess.

Aren't Itoje's minutes needing to be managed quite carefully or are we past that?

I know it's only Japan etc. but Fin looks too sharp to not have been on the bench for the earlier AIs.
