Team for Scotland

Post by UKHamlet »

Matt Sherratt is set to keep almost all of the same matchday 23 from the Ireland team when he names his Wales side to face Scotland in Saturday's Six Nations clash at Murrayfield.
There is set to be just one change when the side is named on Thursday, with hooker Dewi Lake to make his first appearance since December from the bench.

Likely Wales XV: Blair Murray; Tom Rogers, Max Llewellyn, Ben Thomas, Ellis Mee; Gareth Anscombe, Tomos Williams; Nicky Smith, Elliot Dee, WillGriff John, Will Rowlands, Dafydd Jenkins, Jac Morgan, Tommy Reffell, Taulupe Faletau.
Replacements: Dewi Lake, Gareth Thomas, Henry Thomas, Teddy Williams, Aaron Wainwright, Rhodri Williams, Jarrod Evans, Joe Roberts.

Yeah, we're not expecting too many changes after last week. I think I'd switch Reffell and Wainwright and have James instead of Roberts but that's it, given the squad we have. It's a coin toss between Evans and Edwards for 22.

It looks like it is almost a consensus. Even the three possible changes are not really contentious. (I would go with Reffell and Edwards and don't have a strong opinion on Roberts/James.)

A very difficult game to call. Can we maintain the momentum or will we get a resurgent Scotland at home after their narrow loss against England - a game they could have, should have won.

I suspect for the neutral, this could be a great game to watch. Scotland will be up for this, but so too will Wales. On their day, Scotland can score tries< theres every chance this could be a high scoring classic!

Excited about this, but we will be fully aware you're targetting this one.

Smith vs Fagerson should be interesting.

Squidge's observation that Blair Murray will be playing for Wales against Scotland's Huw Jones is also quite funny.

U20s lost 27-12/
We had two red cards. It was a fairly poor game all round.

Second half is going to be painful. Too many errors and we look lost at times. Credit to the Scots.

Some really dull play by Wales, especially after pulling a try back. Will griff sticking a leg out and Murray flinging the ball back in play- hard enough today without shooting yourself in the foot!
Jac Morgan, though- excellent.

Six point margin.

If only we had played a bit more in the first half and at times not tried to play so much in daft positions. Yes Scotland switched off but it’s an 80 minute game and we scored some cracking tries in the second half to make it respectable.

And two losing bonus points which is helpful.

Yes helpful bonus points. It’s something again to build on. Better ruck defence was needed against the Scots at times. Too many tackles missed in the first half and too many silly penalties given away. Stupid yellow by John.

England next in Cardiff.

Johns penalty was utterly daft. Complete frustration I think as the game was so one sided. Far too many missed tackles and some occasions where we looked clueless with the ball in hand. Thomas will hopefully learn from his naive attempt at something creative and not put his team under so much pressure

Out of interest, when did it become illegal to jump to avoid a tackle? Jumping into a tackle fair enough but what’s the difference between jumping to avoid a tackle in the middle of the field and jumping to avoid a tackle in the aft of scoring a try?

That's been a rule forever

You're allowed to dive which is the differentiator

Interesting, I’ve seen it a fair few times in games and never penalised, but I assume that’s refs not being certain enough or even aware of the laws.

One good thing - we’re scoring tries again in between periods of dross. The youngsters are learning. Have to applaud Faletau what a player for Wales and still going well after over international games.

Yeah people will jump for a high ball to avoid being tackled, without being penalised.

Unfortunately I missed the second half, fed up with the first half dirge. A couple of things which would have been nice to have some more of a look at but didn't seem to get mentioned at all on the telebox. Possible forward pass for Scotlands first. Possible knock on just before Johns yellow and I thought Murrays foot was in touch for the shambolic try.

There was an absolute knock on before Johns yellow and I thought Murray was in touch, albeit a close call. Morgan was appealing the knock on but got no change. But thankfully the TMO was able to spot a Welsh knock on late in the second half

Wow, that was total news to me. Why is that against the law? It was fantastic, skilful rugby (in my unbiased opinion :D )
