I said at the outset Helford Capital are as dodgy as fuck. As for setting up an East Wales side, that's utter bollocks. Cardiff invented the modern game and EVERY other side in Wales should go before they do. If you can't have a rugby side in the capital city with the name CARDIFF on the door, you can't have any other sides.

Although as a dragons fan it’s nice to see another team taking some heat.

I wish you luck with WRU ownership. It did no favours for us.UKHamlet wrote: ↑Tue Apr 08, 2025 4:05 pm I said at the outset Helford Capital are as dodgy as fuck. But there is a logic now to east and west sides. No one from Newport will support Cardiff and vice versa, but we still have those original club sides. It will make it easier to drop to three sides and allow for a fourth to return in due course

I agree that Cardiff should continue as a team at the regional level - it would seem crazy for the capital city not to have a team at that level. However, if they don't have a queue of high net worth, cardiff-mad individuals waiting to throw their money at this, the WRU should take this opportunity to own and run Cardiff as a lower funded development team.

Wow, sorry state of affairs. Damn asset stripping bastards.
I agree the capital city should have a regional presence, hopefully an investor can be found quickly

Leinster manage without the Dublin name.. Opportunity knocks
Hardly "fuck em" - it's simply a fact. Cardiff have bigger crowds than any other region. This isn't a rugby or club problem, it's a Helford Capital problem. To quote my original post the day they took over, "I have a bad feeling about this." We either treat rugby funding seriously, as the Irish do, or we don't, and we permanently play in the second tier. By "we", I mean the whole of Welsh rugby. None of the regions can afford to cut the mustard at the top level, so if we adopt a sink or swim attitude, everyone goes.

It would be interesting to learn (although we probably never will) if the owners of Helford actually stripped assets or if they just couldn't maintain the payments. I imagine they paid themselves well and are legally insulated from this mess.

Drivel. The Scarlets and the Ospreys will never work together, nor will the Dragons and Cardiff. They're culturally different. Besides, Swansea isn't West; it's part of Glamorgan. The only West side is Llanelli. Cardiff and Swansea are South, and Newport is East. Maybe we should just close the Ospreys and divvy up the WRU funds between the proper sides.Tuco Ramirez wrote: ↑Thu Apr 10, 2025 10:11 amUKHamlet wrote: ↑Thu Apr 10, 2025 9:00 amTuco Ramirez wrote: ↑Tue Apr 08, 2025 8:15 pm

Welsh rugby is such a basket case. Of all the regions to go under it had to be the one we (probably) can't allow to disappear, and are least likely to turn into a development team.
But can the WRU find anyone with millions to invest/burn on Cardiff?

Re: Cardiff set for administration with WRU in line for takeover
We’re in a world of pain as realistically we can’t support 4 sides, yet less than 4 sides long term just won’t bring enough players through. I’d support a proper regional set up of 2 plus 1 which might allow us to bring another region back when finances improve.
But what’s really confusing is that the Irish have roughly the same turnover but can fund four sides properly. I’m still not convinced that the WRU has got the structure right and that needs fixing before we start cutting back sides and alienating yet more supporters.

its not about clubs UKH - its about what is best for Welsh Rugby - Clubs play in the SRC. i couldnt care less about in fighting between clubs - EAST and WEST - clean slate. one play in green the other in purple. no super clubs just regionsUKHamlet wrote: ↑Sat Apr 12, 2025 1:07 pmDrivel.
