I'd missed this - presumably as they're calling it the U20 XV - that means it's uncapped?
Do we know when the squad for the championship is due for announcement? usually early June isn't it?

Presumably there's a few players that would be in the squad but are in or around the playoff teams squads and so not included. Like Tigers are a bit short on back three depth so Kinder and Pearson and probably retained.

Mid June usually.

Of note as well, Archie McParland is training with the wider squad :)

And please, for the love of everything holy, play Ollie Davies!!

I was hoping he'd been held back by Sale as squad cover for the playoffs.

Sadly they’ve gone with Bellamy and Coen and seen Davies as surplus to requirements. Just what we need, a pair of mediocre 10s!

It’s our biggest weakness by far!

Hopefully, it's the final chance for those 2 to stake a claim for 3rd choice behind Davies and Linegar for the actual championship

England U20 Men’s head coach Mark Mapletoft and assistant coach Andy Titterrell have named their match day squad to face Wales this Friday at Pontypool RFC (15:30 BST kick-off).

The sides meet in an uncapped preparation fixture ahead of the 2025 World Rugby U20 Championship in Italy at the end of the month. England then travel to Tbilisi to face Georgia on 14 June to conclude their pre-tournament schedule.

Former England U18 Men’s captain Ben Redshaw will lead the U20s for the first time, having been part of the squad that won the 2024 World Rugby Championship.

Noah Caluori, Jack Cotgreave, Will Knight and Ollie Streeter are set for their first U20 appearances, while replacements Charlie Barker, Alfie Longstaff and Frank McMillan could also earn a first run-out.

England begin their defence of the U20 World Championship against Scotland on Sunday 29 June, before facing South Africa and Australia in their remaining pool games.

Nice to see Streeter included. Knight seems to be one who the coaches like a lot and Cotgreave gets a go after his Prem outings. I assume it will be a much changed team against Georgia.

Ditch the pair and put Threlfall in as third choice for the competition. He's starting for Notts at 18 and looked alright in the PRC for Tigers. Won't lose anything for this time round and it means we'll have settled options for next year.

Actually I'm hearing Davies has a knock, but could / should be fit in time; if selected. I half take my despair back, other than they ignored him largely for the 6 Nations.

Redshaw was due to get the captaincy for the 6 Nations, but injury scuppered that.

And....Calouri is still a school kid, about to go through A levels.

Longstaff has been the No2 to Tuipolotu throughout age grades and is VERY good.

Great to see Streeter in the squad.

Report from Pontypool (he's unimpressed by the slope)
14-47 2 mins to go. As a game it’s a bit runaway second half
I’m at the game, it’s rugby dictated to by the pitch!!
