Re: Hodge's Heroes
Treviso are going through some tough times. Must be hard for the players. Hard to see how good Edinburgh are in such a game.

Hodge for PM
They're still scoring their tries from moments of brilliance from a player or two so no not really - the jury is still out. Brilliant piece of play to score that from nothing by Bradbury. That isn't coaching. Superbly taken try though.

The score sheet does look nice for Edinburgh. 5 tries in the back 3 and both your flankers sounds like maybe some expansive stuff?

Re: Hodge's Heroes
That Trevso side had to be well beaten and they were. Thought we played at a really good tempo in the first half, though as SHC noted the Italians were very passive and let us play. Second half was quite dull tbh.
Thought that Tovey was excellent, he can evidently run a game when he has that sort of time but would expect him to. Kennedy was also very good, passing was fast and accurate and he was quite no nonsense. It helped that the ball was placed well in the first half, really noticeable difference from previous weeks.

Probably the same standing as before, not good enough for Scotland.Mikey Brown wrote:Where would he be in the standing now, were he eligible?hugh_woatmeigh wrote:OptimisticJock wrote:Actually enjoyed watching that.

Decent performance, put away a bad side which Edinburgh haven't always done.
Treviso really are inexcusably bad.

To be fair to Treviso, they had a lot of injuries and their bench was very weak. I believe a 9 played on the wings and so on...Big D wrote:Decent performance, put away a bad side which Edinburgh haven't always done.

Add to that, whatever turmoil is going on in their club.

I get that, and that is some mitigation but there were plenty of internationals in that team and some of them were missing 75% of their tackles and as a team they missed 25%.Adder wrote:To be fair to Treviso, they had a lot of injuries and their bench was very weak. Aye, It's not brilliant at all. They have no team structure, but it's only the 5t game of the season, it might still build up (although I'm not expecting much). The big players should step up, but who was a "great" in their team? Maclean, Gori, Allan and?Big D wrote:I get that, and that is some mitigation but there were plenty of internationals in that team and some of them were missing 75% of their tackles and as a team they missed 25%.Adder wrote:To be fair to Treviso, they had a lot of injuries and their bench was very weak. Anyway, got my Bus tickets, I'm off to Timisoara (officially) this weekend. Sofia-Belgrad-Timisoara and back. Will be "fun".

I know Treviso are going through a hard time but I would expect McLean and those type of players to be better than absolute dross. The two Italian sides are so bad it really is at the point where no matter what money they bring in then the celtic nations should look at binning them and do it. That's three years in a row they've been 11th and 12th and they don't look.like improving.

Re: Hodge's Heroes
Thanks.
Wonder what they could do to generate success. They have more players than us as well as more professional team (although only two in the pro12). Coaching? Confidence? Maybe they dont have kids growing up in Rugby and developping the natural flair, but with all the Franco Italians, I find that hard to believe.

Yeah I wrote to them A few weeks ago. They have a sort of box for 200 people who get in by making a donation to the club. The rest is free. They have to get people to the games in order to create a legacy . Also, poorer Romanians would rather spend their cash on football.OptimisticJock wrote:Apparently entry to the game is free

Re: Hodge's Heroes
So European fixtures coming up this weekend.
Edinburgh has Harlequins, Stade Francais and Timisoara Saracens. What are we expecting? will we leave the group stage?
Harlequins are currently sitting at 8th in the Aviva, with 3 wins and 3 defeats(no bonus points). I only saw their second half against Northampton. Wasn't sexy rugby and not very creative, but they kept the pressure up and the getting penalties and were pretty efficient. I believe that on a good day for us, we could beat them at Murrayfield.
Stade Francais are bouncing back from a terrible season. Currently sitting at 11th in the Top 14 with 3 wins , 1 draw and 4 defeats(2 bonus points).
I saw part of their game against Racing this weekend and they narrowly lost. They seem to be gaining momentum after a poor start to the season.
They will be looking to make amends for last season. They usually go down (cursed?) to Harlequins but could cause Edinburgh some real damage.
Timisoara Saracens, I do not know anything about them except that they are partnered with London Saracens and wear a similar shirt. As always with Romanian team, they must have some big guys, strong forward but not much back play. I expect us to beat them both home and away.
Predictions would be that we won't leave the group but I am hoping for a best runner up spot.

Re: Hodge's Heroes
Truthfully, I would be resting the main Edinburgh players through the euro season. IIRC there are playoffs for 7th and 8th in the league to get into the big tournament. Edinburgh are more likely to be top 8 than win the diddy euro cup.Adder wrote:So European fixtures coming up this weekend.

Re: Hodge's Heroes
Seems that Hodge is failing to respect the Romanians. Nice to see some squad rotation but am I right in thinking it's only the one SQ back in that starting line-up?if this is the sort of game that we have these players for I'd rather see us taking a punt on some domestic or academy players tbh.
