Corbyn: Doing ok for a student union debater or a potential PM?
I think he's marvellous value for £3 for whoever invested in that

The problem in the Labour leader election was it was vote for Corbyn or vote for one of three 'magnolia' candidates.
I hope for one of two things for Labour
1. The elections in May show that the electorate vote for Labour so approve of Corbyn and they win loads of councils.
2. The May elections are a complete disaster for Labour and Corbyn realises that there is no future for him as leader and he stands down and lets someone else have a go

Pretty much my feelings, then if he goes, bring in Dan Jarvis.Dacre wrote:The problem in the Labour leader election was it was vote for Corbyn or vote for one of three 'magnolia' candidates.

Exactly - I do hope it is 2 even though I voted for Corbyn as I can't see him winning a General ElectionUKHamlet wrote:Pretty much my feelings, then if he goes, bring in Dan Jarvis.Dacre wrote:The problem in the Labour leader election was it was vote for Corbyn or vote for one of three 'magnolia' candidates.

Would the second scenario be enough to get rid of him so soon? £3 supporters aside, he does seem to have a lot of support in the party and Momentum to coordinate that support.Dacre wrote:The problem in the Labour leader election was it was vote for Corbyn or vote for one of three 'magnolia' candidates.

Corbyn is not a natural leader but his politics are generally in the interests of the common man.

I like Corbyn. He has a set of policies I agree with. However he needs to appeal to the wider society
which is very difficult to do with most of the media being right wing.

The media bias was to be expected. Corbyn's real problem is a lack of support in the PLP, with sections that are dead set against him and will do all they can to undermine him.

It's not just the PLP, just under half the membership are, for various reasons, completely opposed to him.

And yet he secured almost 60% of the initial vote and had majority support in all sections.
And he won convincingly on the first ballot. No other candidate would have come close to that level of endorsement.

Yes, probably coz most of that membership were c##ts. I have never laughed so much as when listening to radio 4 of a morning to the array of confused androginous post-Blairites repeating the same bland spin, helpless against the little beardy weirdly gently speaking the truth as he saw it. F##k them a' the horroble weasels I hope that an end to them.
It's very interesting. Like a bizarre social experiment. Day 9 and it has been decided to introduce a real person to the house.
I hope, minimum, this little era pulls politics back to the centre and away from the right.

As to the media, Corbyn has managed so far with few in the media in his corner. The Independence movement in Scotland managed 45% with zero media support and in the face of a succsesson of uncontested lies. Perhaps the tide is turning.

Which stats are you using for that assertion about his present level of membership support?UKHamlet wrote:It's not just the PLP, just under half the membership are, for various reasons, completely opposed to him.

Yes, missed a majority by 0.41% pts among members, but still got more than double the next best contender.UKHamlet wrote:He didn't have majority support of the membership.fivepointer wrote:And yet he secured almost 60% of the initial vote and had majority support in all sections.

It doesn't matter, he didn't get a majority of the membership. He probably would have scraped a majority if we'd been forced to a second ballot, but because the party has been hijacked by a bunch of farking hippies, Trots, Greens, cretins and malevolent cnts paying three quid each, that didn't happen.Zhivago wrote:Yes, missed a majority by 0.41% pts among members, but still got more than double the next best contender.UKHamlet wrote:He didn't have majority support of the membership.fivepointer wrote:And yet he secured almost 60% of the initial vote and had majority support in all sections.

Re: Corbyn: Doing ok for a student union debater or a potential PM?
I resigned because of Tony Blair who moved the party to the centre to attract floating voters and disenchanted Tories
and left a huge void where I was as I was on the left of the old party and felt that they didn't represent my views.
Over 100,000 people left the party between 1997 and 2001, and I suspect that many of them were disenchanted socialists.
I liked Ed Mband because he was more centre left than centre. I gave money to the party ,but they were still addicted to
neo liberalism, which is aka Thatcherite economics, Reaganomics, or trickle down economics (which is actually more trickle up than
trickle down). Last election although I have always voted Labour, the manifesto had some good things in it, but George Monbiot
called it the longest till receipt in history, which I agreed with. I have rejoined because of Corbyn who is more inclusive of the left.
It is just such a pity that the Overton Window has moved to the right in the UK.
So Hammy regards me as a Green (no) Hippy (no) Trot (no) any of the others (no)
I am just a democratic socialist

Sour grapes. This entryism narrative is so lazy.UKHamlet wrote:It doesn't matter, he didn't get a majority of the membership.
