3 headed goals against Scotland may be enough to give Southgate the top job.

We haven't been that good though. Defensive issues persist and Scotland's lack of goals is only thanks to their lack of vision not to put a player clean through and opt for a no hope shot from 25 yards, plus a couple of other speculative shots from distance when other options were on, a free header from 6 yards which somehow missed the target and a decent block from Stones on a goal bound effort.

Was just about to post that I didn't want to tempt fate but I've been impressed with England tonight and Spain score!

We've pressed well without the ball, defended well too and more impressively, we've countered well too. Some nice passages of passing is nice to see from an England team. Lallana was quality before he went off but Sterling has had a good game too.

But...it is just a friendly.

We were shit in our previous games where the result mattered.

It's a little disappointing that the FA haven't seemed to have canvassed any interest in the job besides Southgate. I don't begrudge the fella getting a chance, although I'm far from convinced that he is the right man for role, but it seems he is pretty much guaranteed the job, by default.

Oh well, it is what it is and despite the dross England have served up in recent years, we'll see if Southgate can do any better.
