Re: Trump
Well that in isolation might not have been great, but it's also perhaps Trump's best speech yet. That he disagreed with Donald Trump from the campaign and the inaugural speech does leave open the possibility he's talking bollocks, but we'll have to wait and see. And there is it's more than a little odd to add to the military spend and reduce the diplomacy spend, even before the military spend is already vast and entails huge corruption and waste. I do perhaps like the infrastructure spend, i'm not crazy about private financing though, and even of the sum that would be public funds he's not saying where he'd get the money from.
Still it was for me his best speech even if that's a horribly low bar to clear.

Re: Trump
Perhaps some one has finally managed to get through to him that acting like joe 6 pack is fine with the core voters who got him elected, but he needs to act a bit more grown up in other circumstances.

Re: Trump
It was never going to be a rant of a speech and I'm sure the next time he addresses Congress, it will be a similar tone but you can bet he'll be ranting again on Twitter and to Fox/Briebart in no time at all.

Undoubtedly. And at some point he is going to have to provide some details on these policy ideas.WaspInWales wrote:It was never going to be a rant of a speech and I'm sure the next time he addresses Congress, it will be a similar tone but you can bet he'll be ranting again on Twitter and to Fox/Briebart in no time at all.

Has the new Executive Order he promised on immigration been released yet?

So humble:
I find these ones annoying:
When he advertises an interview from a sympathetic source, he tends to end it with 'enjoy!'.
It's almost as it he craves attention.

As fake news goes, it's proving a little tricky for Trump and fam to shake off Russia.

Sounds pretty much like every visit to US officialdom I ever made - DMV, but especially DSS (to get a tax number for my son).Which Tyler wrote:The new face of Us immigration control:

I always had reasonable experiences with immigration and such like once I got past whatever illiterate blob was on the front line. The educated ones are all right, and LAX seems to have made a big effort to put a more professional face on immigration in the last 5-6 years.

Same here. The DSS was a different matter though.morepork wrote:I always had reasonable experiences with immigration and such like once I got past whatever illiterate blob was on the front line. So whilst he spends 1/2 hour here, 1/2 hour there on twitter, who is actually doing the job he was elected to do? Loving the pop at Arnie, how completely sad and pathetic is that?

Re: Trump
Twitter is perfect for him to spew his rhetoric. Now that he is controlling who can ask him questions, it means he can pretty say what he wants unchecked and get away with it. Quite a few news channels and papers rip his ramblings to shreds, but whilst he is able to accuse them of being 'fake news', his supporters are happy with that.Sandydragon wrote:So whilst he spends 1/2 hour here, 1/2 hour there on twitter, who is actually doing the job he was elected to do? This is what happens when an egocentric, megalomaniac gets elected. It's not about policies, it's all about image and deflection.

Re: Trump
I don't think Uncle Bulgaria understands how things work between executive and judiciary. Love this dig at that point, (poor grammar aside):
"A senior administration official in Washington said colleagues learned of the tweet storm about Obama only after Trump sent them. They were not expecting the President to make any news this morning before golfing in Palm Beach, Florida."

Given Arnie pardoned a murderer because it was politically convenient it's not even hard to have a pop, and it was still a swing and a miss.Sandydragon wrote:So whilst he spends 1/2 hour here, 1/2 hour there on twitter, who is actually doing the job he was elected to do? Re: Trump
Once again, tiny hands makes outlandish claims on Twitter without any evidence to back them up and then he and the WH refuse to go into further detail.
It doesn't matter that the claims have been countered, questioned and criticised by credible sources. The damage is done and it becomes fact to many of his fuckwit supporters.
It just goes to show what a perfect medium Twitter is for him. He can pretty much say what he likes and get away with it.
The ultimate internet troll.

If feels a bit like a entranceto a Kansas trailer park (at least the ones I've seen in the movies so they must be acccurate), where there is a sign saying how long it's been since the last tornado. In this case, it's how many days since the last fuckup. I bet his staff were really impressed. Off he goes to play golf, they all relax and then realise he still has his mobile and can still tweet.Digby wrote:If though as one suspects he's holding out for admiration if not adulation he's going to be a long time in waiting, as yet he hasn't shown he'll rise above the level of a bad joke.
