How did the ABs manage it though? Can one side always keep the scrum up if the other side doesn't want to? Or do you need a really powerful scrum in the first place in order to do what the ABd did?Gloskarlos wrote:More or less every All Black Scrum at the world cup - they were only interested in getting the ball out quick from a stable platform. And any Japan scrum too. I *love* the fact that we're hooking under Eddie - our first try against Ireland came from using the ball at the back of a scrum going forward.Gloskarlos wrote:More or less every All Black Scrum at the world cup - they were only interested in getting the ball out quick from a stable platform. I would like all offences at the scrum to be free-kicks to discourage playing for the penalty but I just don't see how that can happen without everyone just killing the scrum. Maybe allow free kicks to be taken from the side of the scrum and allowing them to be kicked directly to touch without bouncing?

Wonder if its due to pushing and not hooking Vs holding and hooking...... Accept you will make no ground, but keep the scrum up and don't move backwards so the platform is stable rather than trying to beat the opposition by tricks and arm wrestling - of course you need to be strong enough to withstand a pushing onslaught but if the ball has been and gone by then who cares.....thedman wrote:How did the ABs manage it though?
