Swinson is a bench option only IMO..hes not as effective starting.whatisthejava wrote:On second looking Id say there are 10 guys starting that test that are first choice for Scotland
Id say Dunbar is behind Taylor now
Toolis is 4th choice for me behind both Grays and Swinson
Full strength backrow

Re: AI Coming
I actually quite like that kit.
Team looks okay. Injuries are a bit worrying but not far off what I would pick. To me Swinson is a better sub than starter at international level. Glad to see Jones get a chance

Its certainly very weak, altho not as weak as Beatties commentary.General Zod wrote:Is tackling optional?
And as I type we've paid the price and conceded a try.

Great try from Huw Jones, real 13s try that, straight line thru 2 tackles

Re: AI Coming
Embarrassing. They should all be ashamed of that performance.
While I appreciate Huw Jones had a couple of brilliant attacks for the 'highlight' reel. It wouldn't be that far off the truth to suggest half of our unforced errors seemed to come from him.
Mentally we just seem soft. Physically we are perfectly capable of shutting Samoa out and turning the screw on them when in their 22 but the brain farts and complacency seem to set in. Because it's just Samoa you don't need to defend the fringe? You can take a few more risks that you wouldn't otherwise in attack or at ruck time?
Finally. Whilst I applaud the positive rugby that Samoa tried to play and concede it was better than ours... How two of their tries were given I will never know. I couldn't see grounding on either of them. One of them looked visibly held up and clearly not grounded and the other was inconclusive. Really poor from the ref/TMO IMO.
Well played to Samoa, they should be proud of that performance and another bounce of the ball in their favour they could have nicked it.

I'm going to try and not be too negative but I fear I won't be able to help it. I'll preface this with the fact my 18mnt old threw and epic fit during it so will watch again.
It's a win.
A 1st hit out of the AIs
A few players looked ok.
Set piece worked.
GT learned a lesson or 2 about coaching at international level.
However massive questions over some players and the defence. I think Finn showed at times both why he should have been considered for the Lions but also why he shouldn't.

That kicking game from Scotland looked like an utter regression. We repetitively gave the ball to a side keen to run at us. I don’t think I’ve seen us kick away that much possession since before Cotter.
Just looked like the wrong game plan.

and we were back to our retarded best when it came to dealing with restarts.
Some good stuff in there (solid set piece) and the some slick handling from time to time but too many errors.

Defence was very worrying especially on our line. Lots of missed tackles and no real plan to either knock them back or get the ball. Attack was okay I thought just a few too many dropped balls. Thought the kicking game was relatively okay.

I hate saying it but I’m still slightly wondering why we didn’t keep Cotter. Would Townsend having couple of years somewhere else really hurt? The peaks are fantastic but I worry the same issues exist that stay with this Glasgow team when it comes to expectation, concentration, adaptability etc.
Poor games from Wilson and Barclay I thought.

Time will tell and obviously we all hope Townsend will do well. I do wonder whether OHallorans style of backs coaching will be missed.

Agree. I thought Watson put in a decent shift, however.Mikey Brown wrote:I hate saying it but I’m still slightly wondering why we didn’t keep Cotter. Disturbing that Samoa did pretty much the same that Leinster and Exeter did to Glasgow in Europe.

Watson saved us embarrassment a couple of times. I think he is class. He really needs some more support around him though.
Same old issues persisted in many areas. Can’t take restarts, kicking game made no sense at all, leaving rucks completely unmanned to get countered (poor Hogg was in one in his own against 3 players while ours stood back waiting for a pass from nobody), only using static runners off 9, nobody taking the drift off of Russell.
If the plan was to grind away at them around the fringes for 60 minutes it seemed dumb to use Price for that and then Pyrgos at the end, though he looked sharper than he has for a while.
Really disappointing. I hope that was just rust, because that looked like a regression to me. We look content that we can score tries now, so don’t seem to give a shit that or defence is terrible.
