Re: Scotland v Italy thread
I wish Visser could do clever kicks, miles of space behind the defence and Hogg was gagging for it.
Either way the boys did very well to escape that period of pressure without leaking any points but at the end of the day it could have been avoided by doing the basics. I cannot believe restarts have not been worked on after the nightmare at the RWC.

Brilliant pass from Hoggy. He's been our best player every match this 6N - even the 20 mins he was on the pitch against Wales. Humble pie for me.

Given the opportunity to fuck it all up, Scotland decline. How selfish.

ITV are shocking at keeping track of the substitutions.

Delighted we've finally got that monkey off our backs. Some very good things today but still a lot to work on. If we get two basics nailed - tackling (technique & covering) and fielding restarts we'll be a much better team.

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

It's pathetic. When the pressure comes on we can't even hold on to our wooden spoon.Buggaluggs wrote:Given the opportunity to fuck it all up, Scotland decline. How selfish.

I think Italy are just that bad. Other teams will take full advantage of free ball in our half after conceding a penalty kick, yellow cards, missed tackles galore & consistent offences in the danger zone. Parisse seemed to stop talking to Peyper around 15-20 mins for some reason, other captains would have been in his ear about the crap we got away with that close to our try line.Edinburgh in Exile wrote:I'm sure normal service will resume soon.Buggaluggs wrote:Given the opportunity to fuck it all up, Scotland decline. I don't think Italy are THAT bad, they play some good rugby.hugh_woatmeigh wrote: I think Italy are just that bad. They're bad at converting pressure into points. The backs they've got now are a lot better than those they had a few years ago but they've lost that edge in the pack now. They got absolutely monstered up front today. I rate our forwards but not that much!UKHamlet wrote:I don't think Italy are THAT bad, they play some good rugby.hugh_woatmeigh wrote: I think Italy are just that bad. Score about right in the end although can't think helping they should have kicked on and racked up more scores in the first half.
Easy come easy go.

I'm happy with that. Think we rode our luck a couple of times in the second half there, but even the harshest critic would agree we were fucking due some by now.

Thought the first half was entertaining. Both teams were chucking the ball around a bit. Second half sunk into typical Scotland v Italy territory. We made hard work of it when it looked like we were going to give them a doing.
Wilson was decent I thought. Better than Dents so far.
Barclay looked like a man with a point to prove. Plenty niggle and passion. Thought he was MOM.
Wee Greig is frustrating but like the WC he took that game by the scruff. He out captained Parrise I reckon.
Bennet is out of sorts.
Thoroughly enjoyed seeing is murder them in the scrums. Also thought Peyper let them hold on far too long at the breakdown.
I'm sure 'baw jaws' will be along to bore us to tears with his cryptic pish banter soon enough.

Be interesting to see how many tackles Dickinson made. Hogg excellent. Barclay right up there. First time in Rome for the 6N. Will be back.

Hardie and Jonny Gray lead the tackle count with 17 each. Taylor was next with 14.Croft_No.5 wrote:Be interesting to see how many tackles Dickinson made. Hogg excellent. Barclay right up there. First time in Rome for the 6N. Will be back.

My MOTM was WP Nel. I know that various assorted vest wearers will say that Hogg and Russsel created opportunities blah feckin blah, but Nel got through a power of work and created a baseline of power and possession that the quiche eaters built on.
I enjoyed that. Let's move n from here.
