Would be interested to see it again.
He has played there before in an England cameo and looked similar going forward. But as we all know, 15 is a position anyone except Watson can just pick up.....
I’d like to see Wilson at 6 for the following Saturday’s key match against the French. Finishing first in the group will probably pitch England against Australia - unless Wales slip up on a Fijian banana skin, and that would make me smile !!!
Pretty much agree on all the Wilson/Slade chat. He's class. I was happy to see the Curry/Underhill combo but didn't think he'd ditch Wilson in favour of it - assuming that is even what's happened. It wouldn't surprise me if hasn't been fully fit at any point.
I was also very keen on seeing Slade at fullback, but he looked absolutely fecked. Seems a risk but as Puja said we need to see him now (ditto Nowell) if he's going to play any further part. It might actually get a little more out of him as in his Exeter capacity, able to come into the 13 channel when needed but can also provide another playmaking option. Though that seems less useful with Farrell at 12 than say Tuilagi.
He's not gifted with Daly's counter-attacking skills (though Dally has been hiding those pretty well anyway) but has looked like the positioning feels comfortable/natural to him whenever I've seen him there.

How many times is that, out of interest? Slade has the right 'footballing' skills to play 15- also 10, 12 and 13 - but I've never seen him tested positionally in defence. It might be interesting for Exeter to try him there, but I don't really want to give it a full lash in a world cup game

A half vs Australia a while ago, maybe once or twice for Exeter. Err... that's about it.
I wasn't claiming he's definitely got the goods at 15 (like, oh I don't know, say... Mike Brown?) but I'm almost at the point with Daly where I'd take 'maybe he can do it' over 'I've seen him try and do it for 18 months and not been convinced once'.
Same way I'd have been interested (you know, sometime before a crunch game in a RWC) to look at Nowell or that Bath winger there, but I think Slade adds more to the 23 as a whole.

So you would really think about starting Slade ahead of Daly at 15?
Well no, not really. Because there are a bunch of people available who actually can play fullback. I don't get much say in Eddie's teams though, unfortunately.

These are the only quotes I could see in that article. Probably the least controversial things eddie has ever said.
“It’s a part of the Argentinian culture. Like anything in life you can have dormant periods but when it’s a fabric of your rugby it’s quite easy to reignite,” Jones said.
“Mario Ledesma (the Argentina coach) has done that particularly well. It’ll be a massive test on Saturday."
“They haven’t scrummed against us yet and we believe our scrum can be a real weapon for us, so hang on to your seats.
“They’re an interesting team, a strong team. We know that Argentina are at their best at World Cups. We respect them very greatly.”

Nice dodge.
Does the bold indicate the only parts of my posts you're reading or what? Rather than the bit where I said no? What is happening here?
EJ isn't seemingly interested in picking a full-time fullback at fullback, but hopefully views Watson as first in-line to cover there if he gets injured in a game. I don't know for sure if he does. Slade looks a handy enough option to cover there in an emergency and could potentially be quite good, he's worth a spot in the 23 anyway if we're so uninterested in Joseph. Would have been worth looking at him there further but I guess fitness didn't allow.

No, you dodged the point about picking Slade ahead of Daly at 15 (obviously there are others ahead of Slade, but that wasn't what we were chatting about), which you said you were on the verge of, despite his lack of game time there; I wasn't suggesting you had any influence over the team as that would be silly . Sorry to confuse you.

I didn't really think this would read as me saying I'd start Slade, but okay. I'd love to have looked at some options other than Daly (even among the non-fullbacks) at an earlier stage, as I said.
Jack Nowell finally found his new role "as a specialist pick-and-goer"? I guess if nobody can catch it does sort of make sense to just pick it up off the floor and run with it.

And I didn't mean to imply that, just that you were edging towards preferring Slade to Daly at 15. Moving on.....

Now now children - you're both very pretty.
Please kiss and make up; and we can get on with discussing the actual rugby.

Thanks for the intervention, don't know where we'd be without the thread monitor

I have visions of him doing the Worm from every breakdown now. Still doesn't explain why we've stuck with him.
