Re: Lions
I'd agree with that and would add that the best breaking game I think he had was one of Cotter's 1st against Argentina in 2014 (?)
It could be that he was impressing the new boss and at the time was under pressure for his place from Pyrgos - who was playing well himself. Once established and consolidated as captain he did revert somewhat to type.
Of course, he wouldn't be the first Scotland player to lift their game then settle back into a comfort zone.

Re: Lions
It doesn't seem to be a prerequisite of being an international scrumhalf anymore, just look at Youngs. I agree with the above saying he's actually pretty good when he finally feels the need to put some pace in the game. On the few occasions he gets benched he does it, or on those occasions where we wait just long enough for a game to be just out of sight before getting our act together and going the length of the pitch.
I still rate him more than Pyrgos, particularly off the bench, and would keep him in that role for the foreseeable. It would piss him off being on the bench and it would offer another goal kicking/leadership option late in the game.

Re: Lions
Grieg should never have moved to Glos - 4 years ago he was probably the best SH in GB&I, and it was a genuine mystery as to why Gatland didn't take him. Now... it's a genuine mystery as to why he is there this time.

If gatland had picked a decent squad and actually coached well, the lions would not be panicking now given they have an extra man.

Re: Lions
Anyone see Fitzpatrick turn around and try to shoo away the lions fans when the cameras were rolling? WTF.

Thought you'd like that Greg, given you don't like lions fans either

Sky coverage first thing after half time - Ferris (I think) chatting away, lions fans cheering and waving behind the box. Fitzpatrick with a sour look on his face turns around shooing them with his hand. Facing away from the camera for a good few seconds on live TV!wanderingjock wrote:Nope
Everyone here knows I don't support the Lions but trying to discourage fans from having a laugh at a rugby game. What next?
It was only a few secs but really rustled my jimmies.

WE are playing, irrespective of whether I like the selection or not. You don't get that, the lions are not the jocks

Scotland isn't part of the Lions. Not really anyway. You don't seem to get that.wanderingjock wrote:WE are playing, irrespective of whether I like the selection or not. You don't get that, the lions are not the jocks

Ask someone who has played for them. I guess to win a lions series, or at least compete, and get selected on merit, without fifty fifty, you have to be on top of your game. A few have been selected wrongly, by the by. On match day I like the lions.

They won't win at Eden park but it's great that it's not a meaningless game. Lots to work on though to keep things competitive, particularly discipline. Surely vunipola can't start again?

Sets it up nicely for next week but cant help thinking they were gifted that by Garces. From minute one he was giving very harsh penalties against NZ. If SBW's was a red, I dont see how Vunipola's wasn't. SBW was at least allowed to go for the tackle, Vunipola's was just a cheapshot

Great stuff from our lads, really hung in there despite doing their best to give it away via penalties. Most un-kiwi like performance I've seen in years from the ABs, kicking away possession twice in the last 90 seconds, hardly used possession to gain ground at all, albeit with a nod to conditions and the red card but even so, I think the ABs will be hard on themselves at training next week. Still can't see us winning the series but still, we've a chance, and a result that lets me laugh at Greig for being such a sour-puss, double boom!
It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

I've finaly caught the Vunipola incident I think the incident wasn't as bad and a yellow was fine. Don't understand the penalty for Sinklers jump. And what about his reaction....Cameo wrote:Sets it up nicely for next week but cant help thinking they were gifted that by Garces. From minute one he was giving very harsh penalties against NZ.
