Without having watched the game Townsend has now named mixed sides that have lost away to Fiji and USA. It's pretty poor stuff.

23 missed tackles is too many too.

We were up 21-3 at one point. The US Scored just before half time. The Scots were happy to defend in the second half. But it wasn't enough. They looked exhausted, probably due to the heat and the size of the Americans

Also, lots of silly individual mistakes, Mcguigan can't kick. We were very passive at the breakdown.

Our team was a bunch of kids who have barely played pro rugby never mind Test rugby.

Btw congrats to the US who seems to be on an upward curve.

toony seems to like to pick a crazy team and see if they cope. I don’t think he really cares about these losses if he knows more coming into the World Cup.

From reports Hastings had a shocker but we lost by 1 conversion with out (4th choice kicker after playing 80 mins.

Hastings was ok. He just had very little ammunition. Kinghorn missed two conversions (from far)

It hard to truly gauge what you can learn when the team is totally changed.

Losing the 15th ranked side in the world is poor at best regardless of what side is put out. And again so many missed tackles is an issue.

Yeah that’s the crux of it. You have to prioritise to some degree. It’s great to see what all these guys can do but I’d much rather see what a few of Carmichael, Fagerson, Horne etc. look like within a team that is slightly more settled.

I know I also wanted people rested. So I’m asking a lot. But that team never looked right. If it’s all change again for the 3rd test it’s hard not to feel there could have been a better plan to give some people a go but at least have a bit of continuity between sides.

Who is due a start? Price? Bennett? Is Crosbie on your? Will anyone from today’s side keep their place?

What happened with the kickers? Was SHC or Hastings not on?

Also I’m going to take a wild stab here and say US made some decent ground through Hastings/Horne/Grigg/Hamilton in the middle?

Hazy memory but lots of individual mistakes led to penalties which led to the Americans playing in the Scottish half. Their last try was due to kinghorn knocking on after a kicking battle.

Fagerson by the look of it. Just watched the highlights. Feel for him but that was a bad one.

Watching the highlights I'm getting a weird dejavu from 2007. Back then we went for all out bulk at the expense of incidental things like the ability to catch a rugby ball. Now we seem to have gone the polar opposite way and prioritized cardiovascular ability over the ability to occasionally pancake someone. It's a lot more fun to watch than a Parks-Henderson-Dewey midfield axis but still seems quit one dimensional.

Anybody who saw the match, how did the US fullback go?

Think some people are losing the plot here. It wasn't as bad as Fiji - this really was a rag-tag team full of kids or inexperienced players.

Toony got it wrong IMO. Should have played Fagerson, Horne Jr, etc against Canada and a stronger side against USA.

At the end of the day it was a 1 point game and the decisive score came from our knackered 19 year old debutant making an absolute clanger of a mistake.

Thought we also had no answer to their 2 in the loose as well. What a player. Does he have a European contract?

Time to play the best 23 to beat the Argies:

Bhatti
Brown
Berghan
Gilchrist
Toolis
Bradbury
Ritchie
Denton

SHC
Horne
Fife (shudder... but its necessary)
Taylor
Bennett
Kinghorn
Hogg

McInally
Dell
McCallum (Zander is absolutely f*cking awful and has been for a long time, something seriously going wrong with him ATM)
Carmichael
Hamilton
Horne Jr
Jackson
McGuigan

McGuigan was that bad? I guess Fife seems fairly solid these days but has just never looked an international to me. I've said it several times already but McGuigan looks another Webster/Visser to me too. I'm kind of curious how much Bennett has been looked at as a wing or if that was just an emergency. With Seymour out of sorts and Maitland only sporadically good, we really don't have any depth out there.

That's annoying but a few of the comments on here seem to be from people who've not had the chance to watch the game yet. Just as many of that team will start vs Argentina as last week. Arguably it was a better performance just a much better opposition. Personally think the back row and centres just werent right. Mini Horne looked good, Hastings okay though they didnt trust him that much and Kinghorn good.

Incidentally, Kinghorn was first choice kicker all game

Need a solution in defence v powerful teams. A bigger centre will make a difference as do people like McInally and Gray but I think our defensive breakdown work is very hit and miss. Some games we cause chaos and others we dont make any impact
