Because not all councils are up for election at the same time it's not really usually helpful looking at actual share of the vote in particular elections. That's why the analysis tends to look at number of councillors lost and won. Hence my earlier comparison to this being marginally worse than Milliband - the last time these seats were up for election. It's hard therefore to see much good news for Corbyn's Labour in doing worse than Milliband.
If a pilot lands a plane bumpily in a storm, is it a worse result than the previous pilot who landed the plane smoothly in clear weather?

Possibly not - although bad conditions doesn't mean that mistakes are not made. The difficulty is that this situation isn't remotely analogous. Ed Milliband did not remotely have "clear weather". The analogy also relies on the assumption that the clear weather will return. It's also based on the premise that Corbyn is dealing with a storm whereas it's difficult to think of a more inept Government or more favourable conditions for a Labour Party in opposition.

You're right, the analogy isn't good. It should be that the pilot lands the plane during a storm while his co-pilot is attacking him.

and the problem for Corbyn is that the co-pilot shows no sign of letting up and the passengers can hardly have much faith in the crew whilst it happens.

Now what would your advice to this pilot be?

Go back to being a rebellious passenger or dismiss the co-pilot and carry less passengers.

Corbyn doesn't exactly have the moral high ground when it comes yo party discipline.

How is it a 'moral' high ground exactly? I fail to see the morality aspect...
