No Sexton.

Who does that leave? Paddy Jackson? That's a huge, huge blow for Ireland.

Johnny Sexton and Peter O'Mahony will both miss Ireland's Six Nations opener against Scotland on Saturday.

Sexton's calf injury picked up on Leinster duty against Castres on 20 January has not healed fully healed.

Munster flanker O'Mahony is out because of a hamstring problem while Ulster wing Andrew Trimble is also a doubt because of a groin tightness.

"It's better to leave him [Sexton] out this weekend," said Ireland's forwards coach Simon Easterby.

"We don't want to compromise his calf any further."

With Sexton, 31, out of the Murrayfield contest, Ulster's Paddy Jackson looks certain to start in the fly-half jersey against the Scots.

Despite O'Mahony's absence, Ireland coach Joe Schmidt will still have strong back row options with fit-again Sean O'Brien, CJ Stander and Josh van der Flier all available to partner number eight Jamie Heaslip.

I would think it is Jackson.

Sexton gets injured plenty so they'll be used to this.

Madigan won't be available until next weekend. Paddy Jackson is doing well this season, despite Ulster's woes. He played against SA and Australia, so he's a couple of big scalps under his belt. We'll probably end up covering him with Rory Scannell from the bench, though I'm sure you'll all be delighted to hear that Ian Keatley's name is also in the mix.

We still have the batin' av yez, mind.

Gutted I won't see this until Sunday night. Need to stay off my phone all weekend. Think this will be a cracking game.

Connor Murray and the Pack are still there. Ireland are still terrifying IMO and I still can't see us winning. We are not Worthy etc.

Nicely done Adder.

Way too much positivity kicking about in the press. We're just happy to be on the same pitch as them and hopefully we'll learn a thing or two for our 'cup final' against the Italians.

That's a good point. It's important to finish 5th so the pressure from the Georgians/ Romanians is off us and on Italy.

Yup important that we try and eek out a win v a resurgent Italy under O'Shea.

Guys, you are world beatters. You beat the curent World champion, that practically makes you a World cup winner.
At least you have the decency to play minors such as ourselves on a regular basis. Trying to develop the game to one day be able to play a decent opposition I guess . Sorry we are such slow learners.

Collective Scottish cringe. It's a joy to watch and brings a tear to my eye, so it does.

Brilliant.

This weekend is my fave annual weekend, where I genuinely get to support a winning team no matter what happens. I'm pretty much delighted with whoever scores in a Scotland - Ireland match, mostly because it annoys the feck out of all my rellies on both sides.

There'll be Glayva drunk aplenty, good luck everyone.

As someone who work with data on a daily basis I refuse to read that cause of the formatting. Why are the teams ordered like that?

That's horrible reading alright. I would certainly be hoping the stats from the last 5 years are better than that too.

We very rarely won one of our first 2 6n games. Would be good to start with a win.
