And I'm afraid Farrell is going to have to sort his name out. We've already got a Billy Holland and now we'll have a 'Man from Ulster' (What were Mr and Mrs Dillane thinking?), so he's going to have to come up with something a bit more bollock and bite than just Criostoir ui Fearghail!

Looked like a very vicious stamp. Can't help feeling he got a very good deal, especially seeing where those studs landed.

The offence - catching Gibson-Park in the head during a 73rd-minute ruck - was deemed to be worth a five-week suspension, with one week taken off for mitigating factors.

he's probably lucky with 4 weeks. can't recall him ever being up in front of a citing panel before so if you give him a week off for no prior, he should have been looking at 7 or 8 weeks.

killer is struggling with concussion so we're light at loosehead for sunday. john ryan will start or deputise, i imagine. just as he was becoming a decent tight head, we'll stunt his development by asking him to swop back.

his own roots too, lived in kerry from the age of 7 to university age...... he only landed in connacht after missing out on a munster academy spot.

good signings dillane and farrell. talk about a south african prop on the way too next summer. some decent investment into the squad finally after a few barren years.

lots of work to be done though.

Its been a difficult month, so Ive not been about much, the idea of writing something was just a place I couldn't go. Already in October Ive seen the passing of my Great Uncle and also of one of my best friends father, we were in infants school together and his dad was a really lovely guy as we grew up.

Then Axel.......stunned at the news, gut wrenching emotional scenes for the last week, some fantastic articles and tributes from those who knew him well and those who had simply borne witness to him, each with a tale to tell and now a gap in their lives, bringing a lump to the throat and a moistening of the eyes.

Poignant moments captured and played out in the media.Old familiar faces, old men now, carrying the coffin of a father and husband taken too soon. The singing & the candles as he was brought home. The courage and stoicism of his wife Olive was humbling. The singing, the placards, the shrine created from flegs, scarves, shirts and flowers, every one of them a token of people giving something back to a man in recognition of what he had given them. I too am grateful for what he gave to Munster. I got choked at each of the tries, feeling the emotion welling up but could hold back no longer when his two sons were invited into a private post game ritual, played out in public, it was a privilege to witness. And then the contributions from our rivals, who became brothers and shared in the grief at such a gaping loss. Thanks to all of them for sharing.

Through it all, the team played like men possessed, perhaps they were, but we barely looked like we were playing with only 14. How to select MotM on such a day was an impossible task. Fair play to Garces for having the balls to make the correct call in the circumstances. Poor Keith, the last thing he would have wanted to do Im sure, it was good to see him smiling in the post match photos with Michael D.

I can only hope that we continue to play in that fashion, totally brave and totally faithful, for then nothing is beyond our grasp

my favourite line of the week was from Mal O'Kelly, commenting on who might be carrying the coffin last Friday.

Another mare of a night off the tee for Ian! His first shot at goal last night was beyond fecking awful. Nevertheless a hard earned win to give us 5 on the bounce vs Ulster and 3 in a row at Ravenhill (We haven't done that since the 2nd World War). Couple of highlights:

The Ulstermenschen around us were a particularly un-knowing bunch and spent the entire 1st half baying at Nigel; one particular knucklebrain suggested that POM should be yellow carded for play acting when Piatau straight armed him right in front of us (I thought Nigel got it spot on, actually). On about the hour Ulster cleared from well inside their own 22 and I'll admit it was a hell of a thump. Ball crossed the line in front of us but the Assistant Ref called it about 10m short. Cue Neanderthal bawling from the mensch. Nigel strolls up, moves the line a half a metre to the right and winks at the crowd; crowd gets off his back and onto poor wee Paddy Jackson who wasn't playing badly, but certainly not well.

If anyone was watching and wondered how Paddy missed that penalty on 70 minutes, a firework went off somewhere well outside the stadium just as he was about to put boot to ball! Immaculate timing. Superb drop goal by Rory to win it, but if Paddy's effort 2 minutes later had gone over you couldn't have complained. Crowd were howling at Tommy Bowe for spilling a pass with the tryline open: can't remember how many passes the boy took in his ear last night and that was one of them.

For us, The entire front 5 were good, KIller verging on excellent. A quieter game from the back row, but difficult to imagine them putting in another performance like last week. Scrum was strong and is probably our most potent scrummaging pack I've seen in years. Maul pretty good; line out patchy.

Taute is growing on me fast; no hurry for Saili to come back in my mind. 1 error out of him last night when his eagerness to get to Piatau left a pretty huge gap. Darren Sweetnam is impressing more everytime I watch him.

Always fun to walk away from Ravenhill after a narrow win; the vast majority of the fans are a generous spirited bunch, but feck me, the lot that congregate under them flegs are wankers.

A great win, poor old keatley is really struggling, feel sorry for him, cant be long before he taps out. Certainly needs a strong scrum half which we lack.

Killer and scannell are class and lucky for us wont get near an Irish Jersey

Conway, awful in parts. Sweetnam has potential but is still getting a lot wrong, but can come good. Hellov whatever happened LOD?
