I didn't think he was likely to be selected anyway

Berghan over Welsh? There are serious, serious doubts over Berghan's ability at scrum time. At least Welsh is somewhat reliable.
Would have liked to see some impact at 22. Can Laidlaw and Hogg not offer ample cover between them?

Brown is the form pick and I'm delighted for him. A little worried about the scrum at international level though. That's not just limited to him but Ford does offer the props a little more stability.

Besides Laidlaw starting the only two bones I have to pick are around Berghan and to a lesser extent, Weir.

Relatively Small bones compared to previous calls.
Here is the nice looking version:

Some really tight calls in there. Starting LH, back up TH and backrow being really close. We are missing 3 props that could easily have been in the 23.
Brown deserves the 2 shirt. He's normally been better off the bench for Scotland but hopefully do it for 60-70mins.
Back row would have been tough for any combination. Wilson and Watson didn't deserve to be dropped to glad they are playing. Each of the starting 3 have something to prove; can Watson build on the AIs, can Wilson and Strauss do well consistently for Scotland?
Maitland needs to start doing more for Scotland too.

Yeah I'm pretty pleased but as always you could put the AB backline outside Laidlaw and still lose the game if he's in that mood. We're not going to beat Ireland at their own game. We've got to hit them hard and fast, disorganise the defence so our lads can run into the space. Price is the man you want for that sort of game.
The result depends on which Laidlaw turns up tbh.

Oh and harsh on Scott not to be on bench.

Pretty decent bench. In the past the bench has always been evidence of the shallowness of our talent pool.

I was surprised by Ford benching - not because I wouldn't have done that, more because I just assumed Cotter would pick him.
Interested to see how Watson goes - would really like to see him take the game by the scruff of the neck and go on a few runs.
Liking the backs. Just hope the forwards play a blinder.

Always forget the subs. Good to see Price there. Weir - well he was crap in Dublin last time out, so hopefully a return to one of his better games if he gets on. (I like him, tho)
