Sorry, I thought I'd put it higher up.
They didn't even try to intercept the shooter because he was wearing a black t-shirt, which they thought was a bullet-proof vest.

They didn't go in because Texas had passed a law in the months previous that allows residents to open carry without a permit. Some fuckheads apparently could not foresee the possibility of an unstable individual benefiting from this. Every tense standoff now involves calculating random gun fire from anyone within the field of view of any situation from a hostage situation to someone running a red light. It's a ridiculously unproductive law that has entirely predictable consequences. Another reason is that the school is predominantly brown kids/teachers. Scoff all you want but this the environment people have to live in here.

That does seem like an odd reason not to intercept a potential gun man.

Carrying an assault rife variant where there has been a report of a school shooting is probably cause to stop the gun carrying individual and check whether he is part of the problem. The right to bear arms publicly wouldn't impact on that. The shooter wasn't white so I doubt that race played a card. If the police really didn't care about non-white kids they would have gone in like John Wayne and stuff the consequences.

If every swinging dick is assumed to be armed, I'd be hesitant in John Wayneing in. 80% of residents in Uvalde are Hispanic. Police do go in like John Wayne when they know the suspect is not white.....Breonna Taylor as opposed to Kyle Rittenhouse.

Times covering this. Suggestion that the gunman had barricaded himself in a classroom with his victims whilst police evacuated other children.
Maybe they knew the other kids were dead but didn’t want a gunfight with children in close proximity. Likely the walls in the school wouldn’t have stopped a round. Or maybe they thought some of the kids in the classroom were still alive in which case they would have trodden very carefully.
Also some suggestion that the local sheriffs didn’t have the right training, it was border force officers who entered the classroom and shot the attacker dead.
I’d suggest that no one rushes to judgement until all the facts are known. Clips like that in social media make the blood boil but the police have a number of factors to consider in a crowded school with an active shooter.

No one is truly free until they are free to walk around with a gun in their pants.

There is no reasonable rebuttal to the clear, consistent association between accessibility to firearms and the incidence of death by firearms but there is a buck to be made by unreasonable actors that get angry at the inability to do so. That social media soundbite is apparently an acceptable substitute for an actual solution to an actual problem that is enough to elect cretins like this to public office.

Oh wait.

Welcome to America. Please set your watch back 50 years. What a pack of petty regressive dinosaur shagging jesus-freak frauds. Same sex marriage likely next.

We have a health system that does everything it can to squeeze money out of users/patients so insurance providers can keep profits up. The downstream consequences of this medieval decision will be massive for the health of women and children. That's not even touching on the inevitable litigation feeding frenzy as physicians are faced with fines and/or imprisonment for terminating pregnancies in emergency situations or letting mothers die of the consequences of not terminating. I just cannot believe that for the next 30-odd years, these lifetime appointed goat fuckers will use religious parable to decide on basic human and civil rights. This is so fucked up.

A friend has said he recently heard an interview about a book or a study that he thought was called something like "The Kleptomania Economy", I can't find it, maybe some of you are familiar with it. The guy being interviewed said that after the Roe v Wade decision murders in the US dropped by 30%, because people didn't murder inconvenient girlfriends and spouses and babies. He suggested that if Roe was overturned, Americans should expect about a 50% increase in the murder rate over the next couple of years.

Fascinating that he name-checks right to sexual privacy, contraception, and equal marriage as being obvious corollaries of this decision, but doesn't mention a fairly obvious case that was also based upon exactly the same bit of law as Roe vs Wade, which is Loving vs Virginia otherwise known as the same law that legalised the type of interracial marriage which he has. If RvW has to go because of this "error of interpretation", then LvV surely must as well.
Presumably, that bit is counted as unalterable precedent, because he likes that bit.

It's almost as if US law is being written by the Vatican...
Don't they realise that they've destroyed the concept of precedence here? They can now argue that any prior judgement contains an error of interpretation. Their whole legal structure is built on sand.
Excellent point that the minority-protecting judgement he personally utilises doesn't get a mention. But who knows whether that will be found to be similarly erroneous by a future Supreme Court?

You misspelled cunt.
Thousands of people outside City Hall have n Philly today. I’m hoarse from shouting. There are two generations of seriously angry sisters on the streets. This can not stand. Catholic Churches in the city are locked the fuck up tonight. I’m beyond angry.

11 senate seats, that’s what you need. They need to start targeting them now, really strongly. Make it a vote on rights, pick candidates based on that, run ads that talk nothing else…
11 seats.

Biden should have tried to make more Senators by adding more states, eg Puerto Rico, Washington DC. Maybe split California.
And expand the Supreme Court (let's not kid ourselves, if the court had had a massive Liberal bias Trump or Bush would have expanded its numbers).
