Re: SF v SA
A concern I really have is Manu is our only tight hard yards carrier and with the possible exception of Martin can’t see who else in our pack can potentially do this ….Lawes used to be able to, but that was when he still played lock and had a little more ballast - now he’s the build of an erstatz basketball player and a bit too spindly for the close quarters driving stuff….
Ludlam, though not a laviathon, would at least have brought some much needed, direct driving power to our forward play and not including him is plain strange

I’m guessing ‘we are shit’ might face some resistancecanta_brian wrote: ↑Sat Oct 21, 2023 2:57 pmI wouldn’t worry, if it’s like last time when England didn’t win you’ll come up with some daft rule that says they did.

Point taken and I know the old adage that you can only play as well as the opposition allows. But that's often too black and white. Yes - NZ were great, but I think it was also clear that Argentina was a poor team with little organization, bereft of attacking ideas, and lacking in spirit. They showed as much against England in their pool game so I suppose this was no great surprise. A disappointing contest (or no contest) for a RWC semi final.Banquo wrote: ↑Sat Oct 21, 2023 9:16 amI don't agree, NZ just didn't let Argentina play, and the first half hour was a masterclass. A couple of the kiwi counters were fantastic to watch with backs and forwards interacting brilliantly. You can only play what's in front of you #clicheSpiffy wrote: ↑Sat Oct 21, 2023 5:19 amYes - great application, organization, discipline etc. but to be honest Argentina were well short of ideas, didn't fire a shot and never looked like breaching the fantastic AB defence. A bit of a training romp for NZ and for me something of a boring one sided contest just watching NZ rack up the points. Damp squibb of a semi.

Manu won't get much out of deAllende anyway - a tough nut in both defence and attack.jngf wrote: ↑Sat Oct 21, 2023 1:51 pm A concern I really have is Manu is our only tight hard yards carrier and with the possible exception of Martin can’t see who else in our pack can potentially do this ….Lawes used to be able to, but that was when he still played lock and had a little more ballast - now he’s the build of an erstatz basketball player and a bit too spindly for the close quarters driving stuff….

Let's not denigrate him for updating his opinions, even if somewhat belatedly!
