At a guess, I'd suggest PRL rules on playing outsidde of IRB9.
Possibly the Newcastle pair to do likewise; possibly Newcastle preferring to take their £60k fine and keep the players happy - although they're both lat additions, so that might get them through.
ETA: If that was the casem, surely McGinty would sit out, but stay with the squad?

Nah, Baabaas is a spectacle, not international release. Plenty of PRL players have played baabaas in this game before, I'm sure.

They have I also remember some being withdrawn. And the odd one here and there who was withdrawn, and told his club where to stick it (and they don't get much odder than Ronnie Regan).
I just can't think of any other reason that a club with no more matches would withdraw a player from a BaaBaas squad; especially if they're giving no further information.

Mark Reagan played a BaaBaas game when his club could have used him, and that drew censure. Blocking players when they clubs don't have games is a little different, but if he has a niggle that could turn into worse then for me the club are just being professional.
I find it hard to think we should be worried about IRB9 when there's a game Vs us at HQ

If that's the case, then withdraw injured

He might not quite be injured as such, though it might be the more political course to state it as such

They're technically entitled to do it - it's outside the international release days and they could be wanting to restrict his risk of injury. However, it appears to be another dick move from a club that's becoming increasingly hard to like.

Against which how much do the BaaBaas pay for player release and why should clubs release their assets even if there is payment?

Let’s be honest though. Who do you want to watch okay for the barbarians, McGinty or Russell?

Absent of watching it live I can't see the point of watching the BaaBaas game

For all his undoubted talent, he is not going to make the RWC.
far better to concentrate on people who might. Which brings me to my next irritation: Cips named as a full back. This is just f******* stupid. Over the season Cips has been by far the best FH in England. He needs to play in his proper position to make a case for longer term selection. Eddie could easily have named him as an "inside back" and used him as a ready made club half back pairing with Robson, who is set to play some part. Youngs and Ford to start with Cips and Robson on the bench. What is there not to like about that option?
this
Totes. But preaching to the choir. Sounds like quite a few of us are getting seriously pissed off with Eddie. As predicted by the SH posters.

If Cipriani can cover 15 he makes naming a RWC squad much, much easier. Okay it makes a mockery of certain other claims Eddie has made, but I can quite see why he wants to see if some players can offer him multiple options

If Cips covers 15, he could easily be the 3rd 10 in the squad. Ford is a 10 only, Farrell covers 10/12, having Cips to cover 10/15 would be handy. If it works, the FBs will be Brown and Watson, mind.
So long as he plays 10 at some point against SA, I see no problem with him playing 15, too. And if it means we get to see Ford with an actual 12 outside him, all the better.

You should draft a few more 10s into the wider squad. You don't want to appear too conservative.

Does the BaaBaas count as an international if it doesn't award caps? So is this a loophole to get around IRB9?
It's an invitational side, so whoever receives that invitation presumably needs to clear it with their employer.
N.B: As a Wasps fan, the irony of talking about invitations and accepting them or not after the furore caused by a soon-to-be-ex player this past week is not lost on me

Agree, but it should be cleared with the employer first, before the invitation is annouced so that there is not all this chopping and changing. It is still something of an honour to play for the Barbarians. Imagine what it means to a player like McGinty to be selected, only to find that your club will then not let you play. I know the game is all hard nosed professional now, there are injury worries etc.., but at this stage of the season Sale has nothing to play for. Would it have hurt to allow the lad a run and a great rugby experience?

Sale announced his selection on their website and social media before pulling him. It’s all very strange.

That is all rather odd. Maybe a medical showed some underlying issues that would be better off getting fixed ASAP, so he can get back to training for pre-season?

That can only be it. Otherwise it's just looks petty on behalf of Sale. Seems a bit of a jibe from the BaaBaas though to say specifically that he was withdrawn by the club.

What are they supposed to say? If they say AJ MacGinty has withdrawn, it makes out he did it himself. If it's the truth, say it. They've not added reasons etc, which may have made a difference either way.
