Meant to put conceded our 4th TBP.Renniks wrote:Surely you get the LBP and the TBP in that one?Tigersman wrote:Tigers get a 3rd TBP in a row but conceded our 4th LBP on the trot.
I wonder if Tigers need a proper defence coach.....
You're currently in 7th with 1 win (Quins are in 6th with 1 win) which shows how strange the first 4 games have been!

Me neither. I never would have predicted that score, but really pleased for Worcester.
I didn't see the game as I was watching Saracens comfortably beat Gloucester, but interesting to see Ted Hill managed to score two tries. He looked very promising for the U20s.

Tigers looked 100 time better when Ben White came on.

Do Leicester have any back who verge merely on being competent at understanding their defensive system, working to the plan and an ability to read play and identify the correct dangers?
You can by all means carry a Tuilagi or May, but not seven of them whilst rounding that off with a toddler at 15. What on earth is going on with the decision making when signing off on the makeup of the squad?

I think the trouble is we have gone from MOC structure which seemed to be very conservative in attack and defence and hope for the best.Digby wrote:Do Leicester have any back who verge merely on being competent at understanding their defensive system, working to the plan and an ability to read play and identify the correct dangers?

Now Murphy is trying to let players have more freedom the whole thing has gone looser.
Granted these things can take time to sort but I think defence is the easiest of the 3 (Attack, Forwards and defence) just is Deacon experienced enough to do it.
That being said pretty much everyone who played was the players who was fit enough to play.
1. Genge (OUT)
2. Polota-Nau (OUT)
3. Cortes (OUT)
4. Spencer (OUT)
5. Fitzgerald (OUT)
6. O'Connor (OUT)
7. Evans (OUT)
8. Mapapalangi (OUT)
9. Harrison, Simmons (OUT)
10. Toomua (OUT)
11. Thompstone (OUT)
12. Smith (OUT)
13. Tait (OUT)
15. Veainu (OUT)
So options where limited in terms of selections anyway when it came to squad.

When it's everyone, it suggests a system failure, not 7 individual failures.Digby wrote:Do Leicester have any back who verge merely on being competent at understanding their defensive system, working to the plan and an ability to read play and identify the correct dangers?

Indeed - not so much are any of the backs competent at understanding the defensive structure as whether we even have one. Not just the backs either - Denton, Thompson and Kalamafoni all made glaring alignment or decision-making errors just from what little was on the highlights.Stom wrote:When it's everyone, it suggests a system failure, not 7 individual failures.Digby wrote:Do Leicester have any back who verge merely on being competent at understanding their defensive system, working to the plan and an ability to read play and identify the correct dangers?

I see two options - either Deacon isn't good or experienced enough as a coach or we're attempting to introduce an entirely new system mid-season and things will be better long-term. Hard to tell.

But there are players in the pack I'd assume can run a defence even with the odd space cadet, but looking at the backs I can't think of anyone who even could get them organised in defence never mind will. Ford and Toomua are outstanding getting a shape on attack and calling plays, but not so much defence, and then you've space cadets like Manu and May, or individual players like Veainu, so not only don't they have any Barrets they don't even have any Twelvetrees

The Tigers’ defence is getting some fair criticism, but from watching the highlights Worcester also looked like they deserve some credit for some good attacking play.
Ryan Mills in particular looked like he was heavily involved in most of it. He really impressed me last season and looks like he’s picked up where he left off.

This. I think he is quality, prob not test quality but top 4 Prem quality.Scrumhead wrote: Ryan Mills in particular looked like he was heavily involved in most of it. He really impressed me last season and looks like he’s picked up where he left off.
Also, I do wonder how much praise Ford’s performance would have garnered if it was Farrell or Cipriani? Lots, I suspect. The Times was eulogising over Farrell today for a decent performance from his armchair.

I've not managed to see lots of the Prem this season yet, but from what I have seen, Ford has been superb. Simply a cut above all the other 10s in the league.Mellsblue wrote:This. Ford’s footwork for his try was lovely too. He doesn’t take on defenders as often as he used to, but the ability is clearly there. I hope he does it a little more often.
This is the George Ford we want for England. Not the kick, kick and kick again or ‘give it to Owen’ versions.

Aye. I just want to see someone at centre who can consistently attack the line off his shoulder (I mean a real threat, not Robshaw/Hartley/Cole jogging with along with their hands in their pockets) to give him that option of running himself if the space opens up.Scrumhead wrote:Ford’s footwork for his try was lovely too.
