They must have all been mad.
Didn't rather a lot of Kiwis consider themselves British? It was bloody ages before I found out that Hillary wasn't a Brit.

Do any Kiwis on here have a portrait of the Queen in their office? I've seen that before, and it's fucking weird.

I’ve been told that until the 1950s, many NZers (presumably mostly white ones) referred to the UK as “Home” even if they’d never been there.

Portraits of your queen are a bit of a rarity now, but you still sometimes see them in what used to be Gentlemen’s Clubs before they let rich women in too, and officers clubs and RSAs. I’ve never seen one in an office.

My brother in law has one in his house in Australia, which is quite weird, especially because he is a US citizen.

Also, Id like to know the best memory, funny story, or best advice you got from your grandmother or grandfather if youd be kind enough to share.

As I get older I realize how funny and wise mine were, and I was too young too appreciate most of it.
Sounds like someone's become a Granny. Congratulations.

Na-na when we were kids, but she insisted on us calling her by her Christian name when we got older: Nana (as in Nana Mouskouri).

Best advice? Mostly auld wives tales such as not trusting red heads, people with monobrows and never judge a geezer's penis size by the size of his thumb. Do you know if that's true?

Best memory - lots, but probably her ability to bring the house down with her wicked sense of humour:

What do you call 50 female parachutists?

Grandad had lots of names, mostly of the profane variety and given to him by Nana after she'd demolished a few cans of Dutch Gold.

As for "best advice"? Well, he had the same attitude towards the vicissitudes and stumbling blocks of life as Homer J Simpson:

A very wise man indeed.
