Just read that Pieter de Villiers (Saffer prop with 70 French caps) has been appointed scrum coach to the Scottish XV after having been sacked by Stade Français in November where he had a similar post. He was a fine player but maybe there are some question marks with regard to his abilities as a coach.

Tandy is a naff appointment when Shaun Edwards was available and it was blatantly obvious that we needed a new defensive coach. The SRU are either morons or took took long in making this decision. Now he's off to a 6N competitor who will be oh, so much harder to beat because of this addition to their coaching staff.

I'll give him a chance but it's uninspiring.

Indeed, Edwards is clearly mad, who would give up the pissing rain in Edinburgh, just to coach a bunch of no-hopers in the south of France.?

Does anyone actually know if contact was made with Edwards at any point?

South of France...? He'll be based in Paris which is a shithole.

If the SRU wanted Edwards they could have got him. Simple as that. France are just as much a shambles as we are so it would have come down to money.

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

When does toony release his squad.

For me the battle for centres is the most competitive.

A month ago I had Johnson nailed on to start but it could easily be scott/Hutchinson or even Scott/Jones but Bennett has also been very effective.

They fly to Spain on the 26th I think. So there is a fair chance it will be next week they announce the squad.

I couldn't quite remember. There was one year they seemed to be the last of the 6N by about a week to name the squad and it was, or at least felt like it was pretty close to the start of the 6N.

They announce the squad on Wednesday, I think.

Something I read recently is that for that wales debacle 2 years ago, we flew in to Cardiff on the morning of the game! If I knew they weren’t taking it seriously, I’d have saved myself the expense of the trip.

Yep. We did the Captains run at Murrayfield, a lot of people questioned the decision at the time. I remember a lot of Scots around Cardiff the night before the game were confident we'd beat them. After speaking to a particularly over confident chap my old man turned to me and said we're going to get thumped tomorrow. And we all know what happened next

I think I vaguely remember now. I still went! Did a mini tour of wales in the run up, so was clearly taking it about as seriously.
