One nice play, then 3 maul tries. The difference was basically just discipline.

5 tries to nil away from home, missing players and under-prepared - a fair standard to set the rest!

Yep - exactly that. Quins were well in the game for most of it and then were ground down by indiscipline and Exeter’s ruthlessness in the red zone.Raggs wrote:One nice play, then 3 maul tries. The difference was basically just discipline.

Smith didn’t help with some appalling kicking. For an anti rugby team, Exeter relish running the ball back.Scrumhead wrote:Yep - exactly that. In a losing side how good was Will Evans. It’s a shame his backrow colleagues barely got involved.
The battles of the 8s wasn’t really a contest. One of them should be in the England squad and the other shouldn’t be anywhere near it.

Yep. Simmonds should be looked at again. And his brother should be in the mix too.Epaminondas Pules wrote:In a losing side how good was Will Evans. It’s a shame his backrow colleagues barely got involved.

S Simmonds was very good. But as Baxter pointed out he's been at this level for quite some time. His first try was really something special.
Overall Exe just too good despite being some way off their best. Line out malfunctioned a bit and Maunder was well below par. The scrum worked nicely and they know how to execute a maul.
Thought Quins contested well for an hour. They fell away in the final quarter and the final margin wasnt a true reflection on the game.
Thought Evans was outstanding for them.

As ever, it is a hell of a problem to shift the shirt-holders. If you could create a hypotheitical situation where all English players were only selected based on current club form, these two are the best in their position, IMO. That counts for zilch and neither will get a look-in under Jones unless there are quite a few injuries.Banquo wrote:Yep. Simmonds should be looked at again. With Umaga not getting even a bench slot against Italy or Georgia who is Jones's 3rd choice FH? Cipriani is gone. Smith and Umaga have had squad training time. Two injuries, such as Scotland and Ireland have had, and we have nobody ready. That strikes me as daft, to put it mildly.

Unfortunately you can’t solely base on club form tbh.Oakboy wrote:As ever, it is a hell of a problem to shift the shirt-holders. Given the quality Exeter were missing, and had no lineout, pretty impressive tbh.fivepointer wrote:S Simmonds was very good. But as Baxter pointed out he's been at this level for quite some time. His first try was really something special.

Quins were missing a lot of players too i believe. Bench seemed rather poor.

No, we're just poor...Raggs wrote:Quins were missing a lot of players too i believe. Bench seemed rather poor.
OK, tbf, we're missing Marler, Chis, Marchant, Ashton: that does make a difference, and a big one, and both backup 10s were out, too. But that meant the XV was close to full strength, or as close as you're likely to get.
Oh, and, incase anyone had forgotten, we were also missing Michele Campagnaro. What the hell happened to him at Exe that has destroyed him? He's played something like 5 games for Quins.

I specified quality and an absence of lineout....Raggs wrote:Quins were missing a lot of players too i believe. Bench seemed rather poor.
