(In addition, Leicester Tigers have been fined £17,900 for failing to disclose information about the above arrangements in the five seasons from 2016-17 to 2020-2021 inclusive. In respect of 2020-21 Tigers were fined for non-disclosure but there was no overrun of the Salary Cap.)

Strikes me that as said, they knew exactly what they were doing, and kept it within a boundary where they wouldn't cop a bad sanction.
This.
Like staying under 110% of the speed limit - you know you’re being a naughty boy but you’re happy with the fine and an hour being bored to death in the local village hall being taught about stopping distances if you get caught.

The overwhelming feeling at Leicester, and from their fans, will be of relief. With Tigers 12 points clear at the top of the table, this investigation had the potential to derail their title bid, or even relegate them, had the offences been serious enough.

But this is not a good day for England's most successful club. Tigers have been found to have systematically bypassed rules aimed at keeping the Premiership fair and competitive, and have incurred the second biggest salary cap fine in the division's history.

Tigers, miraculously, appear to have regularly overspent just below the limit that could have led to a points deduction or worse. Had they been investigated under current rules, and not those in place at the time, they'd be in big trouble.

Their reputation is significantly hit by this, and despite wholesale change in the boardroom and at coaching level since these breaches, some figures have big questions to answer.

Well, quite. Though the point about current rules is a bit below the belt, even if it seems to apply in other walks of life

It is below the belt, but as you say standard fayre in this modern day and age. Journo's clearly got some beef. 'Miraculous' 'systematically' some big boy words.

So the Borthwick era is affected after his claims of being completely clean. What was it he called Pat Lam again...

Suspect Newcs will be upset, if Leicester hadn't cheated then they may well have stayed up.

No? Borthwick came in in 2020 and only took full charge at the start of 20-21 (when Murphy was released), and it's specifically noted that we weren't over the salary cap that year.

Plus Leicester finished 10 points ahead of Newcastle in 18-19 and were £55k over the salary cap that season. I think you'd have to be incredibly petty to say that £55k was the difference.

I'm still entertained by the fact that we were so bad in that period that we managed to fail even while cheating the system. Other teams cheat to win championships, we cheat to get Campese Ma'afu and Valentino Mapapalangi in the same squad.

The shame of being that shite and still being over the cap. Thankfully the club has already removed those responsible.
