I think this is the way forward. We don’t have the commercial clout to have a league like France. We need better central coordination but also some mutual respect and competence both ways. For sure, this current embarrassment can’t continue or there will be no pro rugby in Wales.

Yeah. I hope this (if it happens) is the first step towards complete central ownership but even a minority stake should bring better coordination between the WRU and clubs, and also between the clubs. Wales needs to be working together, for Wales.

I don’t think it’s all dead in the water. The part ownership bit seems to be but the article did suggest that other areas were open for agreement. Fingers crossed that some sense breaks out soon

That is indeed a disappointment as fans on both sides of the bridge would surely have welcomed with open arms the chance to see Bath play Llanelli or Cardiff v Leicester on a regular basis.

That is indeed a disappointment as fans on both sides of the bridge would surely have welcomed with open arms the chance to see Bath play Llanelli or Cardiff v Leicester on a regular basis.

It would make a lot of sense from a supporters perspective to play games against English clubs. But this keeps coming and going; we need to think about how we can make the 4 teams work in the current league and not get distracted. The English clubs know they have a decent product (not what it once in some respects) and wont take risks.

This was a great job interview for a non existent job. Forget all the money wasted on upper execs, back up the security truck and give this man a wad to come in and do exactly what he says here.

So easy when put in isolation. Needs Analysis and tailored training from a young age. Straight from the corporate world (and if you throw in terms like ROI, Needs Analysis, analytics you will have execs on board in no time)

It occurs to me that, despite the problem of restructuring the 4 regions seeming intractable - because they're privately owned - this could have been partially fixed a few years ago. The WRU used to own half of the Dragons. They should have taken that opportunity to take (buy) full control. This would have allowed them to turn it into the low-funded development side we need. That would have taken us a long way towards where we need to be.

(Ideally then, but with more difficulty, if another region could be bought up by the WRU, that one could be turned into the high-funded region, leaving two privately owned regions on middling levels of funding.)

Agreed. You feel like this is another lost opportunity. The decentralisation of the academy structure really hasn’t worked.
