Any idea if you'll be able to watch on Rugbypass after the match has finished? I forgot 6.50am on a Saturday still existed.

The battle of Prickly Coaches. I don’t know where Japan are at right now but they could spring something with a one-off Eddie Jones party trick. They will be up for it though.

Almost 8AM for me, and the kids will have been up almost an hour by that time :D lol.

There's a 50/50 chance my 6 year old will be up by 6.30. is quite happily forget there's two 6 o'clocks in the day but not much chance of that.

100% chance my 1 and 7 year olds will both be up at 5.58, so I'm golden.

Actually managing to pay attention to the game is a different challenge.

I have a 3yr old and a 1yr old so safe to say I’ll be wide awake. Very little chance of watching much of the game though. We’re in Spain so a bit friendlier time but my 3yr old will be itching to be in the pool well before the final whistle.

I've not got any children, but I do have insomnia, so safe to say, I'll be up and about somewhere around 3.00-4.00, and ready to fall asleep again around 6.30-7.00.

Bugger!

We’ll have no talk of non price gouging holidays during term time, please.

One of the few advantages of holidaying with kids this young …

‘Holiday’ is very much in inverted commas. No relaxation here.

6.50am suits me. Up, watch the game, comment sagely on RR and have plenty of time to do other things.

If the BBC or ITV had picked this game up I reckon viewership would have been pretty good all things considered. Cup of coffee, some toast & a good game of rugby to kick the weekend off. Not sure why nobody went for it.

Oh god, all this talk of kids, and I've just remembered we toured NZ 10 years ago. My daughter was a few months old and I took the early morning shift and watched the games with her in a sling on my chest :D

In other news, Eddie Jones is doing Eddie Jones things again: https://www.planetrugby.com/news/eddie- ... ty-student

Japan: 15 Yoshitaka Yazaki, 14 Jone Naikabula, 13 Dylan Riley, 12 Tomoki Osada, 11 Koga Nezuka, 10 Seungsin Lee, 9 Naoto Saito, 8 Faulua Makisi, 7 Tiennan Costley, 6 Michael Leitch, 5 Warner Dearns, 4 Sanaila Waqa, 3 Shuhei Takeuchi, 2 Mamoru Harada, 1 Takayoshi Mohara
Replacements: 16 Atsushi Sakate, 17 Shogo Miura, 18 Keijiro Tamefusa, 19 Amanaki Saumaki, 20 Kai Yamamoto, 21 Shinobu Fujiwara, 22 Rikiya Matsuda, 23 Samisoni Tua

There are 8 debutants in the starting XV, including the front row having two players with no caps and one with 3 caps, and the full-back has never played a professional game of rugby, having played just for his university and Japan U20s. It's either genius, top-tier, paradigm-breaking levels of talent spotting and Eddie is building a superstar team of the future, or he's selected a bunch of callow youths simply because he wants to show how different he is, and Japanese rugby is going to celebrate their first ever home test against England by having 100 points put on them. I mean, it could even be a bit of both; who even knows at this point.

The fullback has been playing for Japan XV in some Pacific Cup games (or whatever they are called) presumably he caught the eye enough to get fast tracked. It's the start of a world cup cycle for Japan so taking some risks and blooding new players isn't a bad idea but as you say you'd have thought Eddie would have marked the occasion with a stronger side.

Is Eddie perhaps - er - unbalanced? I mean that respectfully - but his actions since taking the Australia gig have been hardly sane. Selecting a very young Oz side for the WC - then negotiating a new deal with Japan while ostensibly coaching Oz. And now this selection.

It is weird, no?

He doesn't seem to give a fuck really. Maybe Japan in a rebuild phase is his level right now prior to a quiet* retirement. It sucks for Japan, but they had all the red flags right there before they bought him out of the ultra cursed Australia contract.

*loud and annoying

I was actually quite hyped when there was a brief phase of linking him to America. It would've been absolutely the perfect role for him - World Rugby backing, an absolute basket-case with a bunch of potential where he could basically do whatever daft thing entered his head and try and reinvent the game there. He could've been ridiculously ambitious and probably built the USA a team in the same way he did Japan for 2015.

Like I said though, this could be him being a 4D genius and working on the basis that it's better to lose by 60 points to England with players who might actually go somewhere, rather than pick the stalwarts who'd keep it down to 20-30 but not actually develop anything. The difference between insanity and genius is measured only by success.

Possible genius in that his selection lowers expectations on the side and then any result or close game that follows reflects well on the plucky underdog.
