Interesting to see young Archie Van Der Flier getting a start the English loosehead is a big unit and had a successful loan spell with Notts last season winning their young player of the season award. Think he had a knack for scoring tries as well.

Indeed - though still some people out there who don't understand the physics of passing backwards.
Bath's first try also some good thinking from the kids. O'Donoghue with an excellent 50:22, looks like Bailey with the quick throw to Emens to fall over the line, Short and Richards also up and available with only 1 defender back there trying to prevent the throw.
Shame to see John Stewart go off in the 3rd minute with what looks like a knee injury - hopefully precautionary rather than anything else.

The rumour I heard was that he had offers from around half the league. Seems the expectation is he'll develop into a serious player. Will we see him step up early to the under 20s do you think?

He's one where initially the view was that his name was carrying him a little, which was a tad unfair, but at U16 he looked decent if not really standout. He's really improved during sixth form and rightly was in the U18 mix, with some other very good players in and around him. Wing for U18s this season was seriously competitive, so just making the 6 Nations festival squad was bloody good.. Just look at Gus Hall and Jack Bracken who both ended up U20 world cup winners. He was also doing both rugby and athletics before making the decision to focus purely on rugby. Reports from the old L Irish academy were of a real work ethic and willingness to learn, and I think that shows in his improvement, especially in U6th / Year 13. He's got all the raw attributes to make it.
There were a lot of clubs sniffing around, but I gather having spoken to Bath he was utterly sold. He may get some U20s time, but it is a congested position and then some. Most of the candidates though are fresh graduates into senior academies.

Yeah agree, I think Offiah could go either way and it can often by hard to tell with wings transitioning to senior rugby
Watching bits and pieces of him from 16 he always looked decent, without looking like a sure thing (albeit he was playing up a year for a lot of that). Quick, agile and strong enough to have a good shot without being a complete freak at that level. I think the name gets people to look at you a little closer, but it's on him from here on in and having the work ethic will be key.

Given the number of ex-Bath players at Cardiff, I'd have preferred to keep our current Welsh youngsters hidden from sight

Sarries looking a bit light on lock numbers. Presumably Itoje is still being eased in, where's Isiekwe? I assume MacFarland is still injured.
Otherwise that's a pretty strong team.

Only the one flyhalf in the squad which is odd. I hope Volavola isn't going to play the whole game. Threlfall was added to the squad late on last time out and hopefully will be again this time. That or Woodward might get a go at 10, maybe Whiteley.

Mixed experience team for Saints vs Leinster tomorrow. Apparently Hutchinson is now our most capped player. Looking forward to see how that backrow goes together, could be lovely.
