Short of Toulouse suddenly deciding they won't or can't renew his contract, whenever that's up, or maybe wanting to be closer to the wider family, I don't know why he'd bother.
well....international rugby? But fair points- and the french sides certainly seem better able to keep historical sick notes gainfully employed.

I mean Toulouse is wonderful but if he has a realistic chance of winning a RWC in 2 years time I don't see why he wouldn't have a season or two in England.

That's a bigger stretch than my cat does after an 11 hour nap, but point taken :)

I don't see it happening. He's signed on for another 2 or 3 years IIRC, he's earning a decent wedge, he's utterly beloved there, it's a beautiful place to be, and the only downside is not playing for England, which he wouldn't be guaranteed of even if he did return, given the competition in his positions.

That’s the crux of it isn’t it. He went to the World Cup and barely played before his injury. Competing with Curry x 2, Underhill, pollock, earl and his own brother to get a game for England. Not guaranteed in any way- look at Zach Mercer.

Yes, the Toulouse supporters adore Jack « Weeleece », and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he stayed here until he retires, unless he really wants to have a real crack at playing for England, but he’d need to choose an English club carefully to help him achieve this goal. I’m persuaded that if Zach Mercer hadn’t gone to Gloucester and had chosen another then he may well be in the mix today.

I suspect he'll settle for the good life. Hefty wage, good playing environment all in the south of France. Could be a lot worse, for instance he was in Coventry before that.

Maybe, the Lions snub will confirm his belief that he's best off where he is.

hardly a snub, he's not played international rugby for a long while in selection of Lions terms.

Agreed. He's (by all accounts) doing an amazing job there but hasn't played an international since..... 2022?

And wouldn't've been available until the 4th game of the tour. I wouldn't've taken him either with that restriction.

Indeed- I would love him to be available for us, very different to the other contenders.

Will he qualify for France if he stays there? I reckon he'd get picked if he did.

COuld you not make the argument that he wouldn't have been snubbed by the lions if he'd been playing in the 6Ns, or am I missing somehting?

He could still tour in the future - he's got one left in him, even after this IMO

Not sure he would, their back rows are very good, but very different.

A bit on Emeka Ilione. I thought he'd slowed down on his studies but nope, apparently between rugby and medicine he's doing pretty much 12 hour days 7 days a week.

That's amazing- Jamie Roberts did it, but iirc staggered it out somehow. Hopefully it'll all pay off/come together.

No - you can't switch nationality based on residency. Because he's capped by England, he can only swap to someone he's eligible for based on ancestry or birthplace.

And that’s the end of it and we shall never speak of him again.
