Time to concede we've been pumped and get the important players off... Hogg and Ritchie. Put Cummings or Turner at 6 if needs be.

Right, enough of this pish.
Bigger picture. When does Townsend play his 1s together. Next week? The week after? Does he know his 1s?

It may not have been a plan exactly and they just took the chance to take a quick look.He did well in the 2 scrums he had and that is really the only area it is different. It may lead to a longer experiment at a later date.hugh_woatmeigh wrote:What will you learn in 10 mins? Likely to only take 5 props to the RWC so one will need to be an emergency option for one side. He was blowing out his arse too.hugh_woatmeigh wrote:He's now been replaced by Reid. Weird.
All bar 2 teams took 5 props last time. Seems to be the way teams will go.

I honestly think the only solution to our woes is a post-RWC coaching clear out. The players are not this bad. Someone out there can get more out of them. It's about management, tactics, coaching & strategy. Not their ability.
Football analogy but Steve Clarke with Kilmarnock is a classic example. They were always a shite team and always will be but he turned that team into something greater than the sum of their parts.

Probably the first Georgia game, I’d say. A chance to perform away from home in probably quite tough conditions. Honestly wouldn’t surprise me if he picked a similar team next week.Big D wrote:Right, enough of this pish.

Has the R Gray boat definitely sailed?

Cutting the squad probably got a lot easier after this shit show.

Yeah - in all honesty, I’d expect a few of the ones who will miss out to play again next week, if only to avoid injury to our starters.Chunks Baws wrote:Cutting the squad probably got a lot easier after this shit show.
Can’t see Strauss going, and Gilchrist hasn’t done well in my eyes. I did expect him to be on the plane, but not sure now.
Don’t think Jamie Ritchie will play next week. He looks like he’s been in the wars!

Toolis and Gilchrist were as bad as each other. Might as well have played Paul & Barry Chuckle.

They would probably have communicated better at the lineout.hugh_woatmeigh wrote:Toolis and Gilchrist were as bad as each other. Might as well have played Paul & Barry Chuckle.

Can't wait to hear what the coaches have to say about that. Embarrassing stuff.

It's actually a really, really flattering scoreline.

I think we need to keep in mind that it is nearly doors so can forgive the odd woeful individual performance (GG IMO) but Bhatti and Strauss haven't the same money in the bank IMO.

I think you are spectacularly missing the point. This is the same shite as against England, as every other goddamn match. No lessons have been learnt.Big D wrote:I think we need to keep in mind that it is nearly doors so can forgive the odd woeful individual performance (GG IMO) but Bhatti and Strauss haven't the same money in the bank IMO.
And the cherry on the top is the non-existent conditioning. How do you fix that in a matter of weeks?

Can’t remember which prop it was (Fagerson or Reid), but when Picamoles picked and ran 20 yards off a ruck towards the end, I was howling at the telly. Piss poor fringe defence. Just looked like a fat lad in the school team.

No I am not. The overall team issues are still there and my comment clearly referenced individual performances. I am talking purely in reference to who will or wont make the plane. There was a preceding comment that GG may not make the plane.hugh_woatmeigh wrote:I think you are spectacularly missing the point. The team issues persist no matter who is wearing 1 to 23.

Was more referring to the keep in mind it's early doors reference. If anything it's more of a concern that they played this way despite their shocking 6N performances & showed no fitness whatsoever despite the 2 month camp to focus on training & fitness.Big D wrote:No I am not. Unrelated but one thing I detest about the mentality in the camp is the "we played badly last week but we'll strive to put it right next week" - almost fluking a win at any cost. I'd much rather they objectively identified the deficiencies in their game and improved upon those areas in the next.. and the next... and the next... regardless of the result. Because that represents continuous improvement with a view to peaking for one of the major tournaments. You honestly have no idea what performance you will get with this team because the harsh truth is they haven't improved at all since Toony came in. They are in exactly the same position now as they were in 2017 performance wise.

I wonder if we do lose to Samoa and Japan, whether we might see Dave Rennie get a new checked shirt and move along the M8. We are shit.

The early doors thing was still about individual players, more about GG (I hope) having an off day.
On another note. Barclay didn't look great at all after his long international lay off.
