Has to be said, England's leadership went to absolute pot after Hartley went off. No composure, wobbly set piece, poor tactics

FT 15 - 16
there for the taking...
Poor leadership 2nd half.
NZ clearly better technically & composure when it mattered.

Are you allowed to actively tackle the defensive SH at scum time?

Faz lost that game for us IMO.
That restart, and then a complete absence of captaincy, including wrong decisions tomgomfor the corner instead of points, did he exchange any words with Garces, (mind you, silence is an improvement there for him), and total loss of composure, should also have demanded the drop goal, rather than sliding back into the pocket silently

I’m really trying to view that Underhill ‘try’ dispassionately, but that was an obviously good try wasn’t it?

After NZ defending offside for so much of that game, to penalise Lawes when he was on side is an utter joke. Bitter South African.

No. Lawes was clearly ahead of the hindmost foot in the ruck on the England side (your 18, with the hair).

Let's put it this way - if that wasn't called, people would be pointing out Lawes' positioning leading to the charge-down.

From the bits I read on here when I was out, listened to on the radio on the way back and what I saw gives me some hope. It was a decent effort given the conditions. Lineout went to shit and that offside decision ultimately cost us the game. It was a try for me (and I'm Welsh qualified). Not sure why Garces didn't overrule and make the decision. He bottled it and the TMO didn't want to give it.

TJ did that every scrum since he came on.

Puja, delete the above for me. The Lawes offside decision was a farce.

Harsh call there. Lost it when the lineout disintegrated. Anyone with more technical knowledge see what hge issue was? Just George losing it?

This, plus two interferences with Care in three rucks
It just boils my piss. They're infringing right in front of the posts and the refs says "hey now...be good" instead of giving a penalty.

Agreed TBH.
Lawes was inside whilst the ruck was stable, then it fell towards us, shifting the line of the back foot, putting Lawes offside. IMO Perenaranhad hands on, it the ball was on the floor.

It took a couple of replays for me, but right decision, albeit incredibly marginal.

Can we all, please, take a moment to see that we just held NZ to only 16 points, only 1 try, got Barrett worried to the point he's going for DGs
We also looked a completely different team for 30 minutes of that game to what we have for the past 2 years - even just from an intensity point of view!

Penalty count was a huge improvement too!

The fact we can sit here and whinge about the ref in an NZ game is such a huge turn around from where we were last week!

I'm no expert, but they looked like Itoje was high enough, Retallick just kept reading it, and George wasn't getting the ball high enough

Yes - I think he was just fractionally in front of the hind foot but there was nothing in it at all. No complaints if the ref had let the try stand. Players are doing that in every game of rugby, from start to finish. England got a lucky call with Farrell's tackle last week and an unlucky one today.

For someone who missed the first 25 minutes, that was absolutely terrible from England. Just piss poor.

But we still lost, from a position we should have won. And just added even more self belief to the ABs that they can afford to give 15 points to us and still overhaul us.

56 minutes without a point is piss poor.

Oh, and I think he was just offside too. But again, compared to what Garces had let the ABs get away with it rankles all the same

Possibly. Again, all you ask for is consistency. There’s 67 of those a match.

I guess I'm just feeling that this is the best I've felt about an England performance since the end of our winning streak… (and probably before that)
And, I don't actually disagree that we were shunt for 56 minutes of it!

NZ lineout dominance also started with an utter bs decision when Retallick got our ball by just going for the arm. No contact with the ball at all

Danny Care should have bossed the forwards for a Farrel/Ford drop goal.

There was one blatant pen and then another three of him desperately trying to buy one.

Agreed, and I've no sympathy for him there.
Equally, Faz slid back into the pocket, and uncharacteristically, shut up, so no-one knew he was there
