This wouldn't have even caused a ripple if it involved Andrea Leadsom.

The racism allegation is perplexing, unless of course this Davis guy has a history of racially questionable comments and/or actions. I'm not familiar with the guy, but then, I have to admit that I don't exactly keep tabs on British MPs.

The sexism part though, is quite clear as it falls into a depressingly familiar pattern of female public figures being judged and criticised for their physical appearance rather than their character. Read up on this shit, bro.

Boris Johnson and anyone called pale, make and stale, ie any white, male MP nearing or of retirement age. There are plenty.

Let's put it this way: one involves punching upwards, the other involves kicking downwards. Care to guess which one the ex-Bullingdon Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer would fit into?

I don't need to read on it. It was a private text in which someone joked to Davis that he heard he'd chatted up Abbott, Davis replies that he finds her ugly.
As I've said to Rowan, it happens to both sexes and there is as much of it, if not more, with woman attacking woman. There were plenty of pieces with Cameron going for a jog and his beer belly sticking out through his sweat soaked T shirt, and plenty about Osborne and his 5:2 diet and new Caesar haircut. Nobody moaning about that.
There is plenty of sexism in the work place that is actually incredibly serious and moaning about stuff like this just gives the moaners the ammunition to moan that it's PC gone mad.
This is a smokescreen to deflect from migrainegate (that's for you Mikey Brown) and the fact she's generally useless. By the way, I think she's useless because she's U ale to defend her position whenever I've seen her questioned on tv, not because I think she's ugly.

Because no one is as underprivileged as white men.

I'll say once again, feel free to read up on white male privilege.

Honestly, if you can't see how fucked up it is that a white male sees fit to immediately attack a black woman over her appearance because she had the temerity to tell him to fuck off, I don't know what else can be said to you.

Have a look at the % of white men going to uni and get back to me.

However, that misses the point. The jump from she's ugly to he's sexist is ridiculous. As I've said, there are so many serious cases of sexism, racism, homophobia etc etc (see the current issues in the synod that will probably get less airtime than Davis' texts) that to make a song and dance about this belittles the serious issues.

As for him 'immediately' attacking her. It was a joking, private text later that evening. A text conversation he didn't even initiate. If he'd immediately responded 'I wouldn't hug you anyway you fat bitch' I could understand the uproar but this is nothing.

Perhaps you could call me a c**t?

Like I say the list is pretty endless. Let's not forget Tony 'torso of the week' Blair (or is this ok), Michael Gove, John Prescott. There's not much I find to praise Corbyn about but his retort to Cameron's mother's suggestion he smarten himself up during Cameron's last PMQ's was top draw.
I go to an annual dinner near where I live that is always attended by the local MP with another MP as guest speaker. When the compere introduces the guest MP there is always a comparison of ranking on sexymp.co.uk. The local MP hasn't won one yet. The compere is hilarious but sexist.

& look at Trump!! Of course, plenty of jokes have been made about Obama's ears as well. I personally find it distasteful for a man to ridicule a woman's appearance under any circumstances, but it's a taboo that might also be regarded as outdated.

Following a meeting with Brexit Secretary David Davis, Sweden’s EU Affairs and Trade Minister Ann Linde said that the UK and Sweden have the “same vision” when it comes to making sure that Swedes living in the UK and British citizens living in Sweden have the right to stay after Brexit. From our Daily Shakeup: http://openeurope.org.uk/daily-shakeup/ ... #section-1

Let's just hope Davis didn't try and give her a hug.

Are you honestly trying to suggest white men are now a minority on UK campuses? It's pretty easy to disprove such a notion when the universities themselves make their student demographic statistics publicly available.

Because making a joke about someone's appearance behind their back isn't offensive, right? Honestly "it's a joke, get a humour" is a stupid fucking argument because it isn't even one.

Honestly, if you don't get why a white male critiquing a woman over her appearance is veering into sexism, and refuse to read up on why, there really is no point because you never will get it.

No I'm not, but it's way below their % of the population as a whole.

Being offensive and being sexist are two wholly different things. I think you calling everyone a c**t is offensive and there are plenty of people out there who will call you sexist for using the female sexual organ as a derogatory term. I haven't told anyone to get a sense of humour as it's not funny. I don't get it no and I refuse to read up on it. Mainly as I don't have the time or the inclination but also, as Rowan shows, you can read as much as you like but it doesn't mean you're correct.

Aren't many children's nursery rhymes originally poking fun at political and prominent public figures of the day?
I don't think the inspiration for Humpty Dumpty or little jack Horner would have been pleased by the unflattering descriptions but it shows that whether it's a political cartoon, of someone famous, someone who might be considered immune eg captain James cook for example or Peter cook doing his Harold McMillan impression at the establishment in the 60's or even have I got news for you/spitting image, public figures have a target on their back, it's part of the deal. Getting offended and crying foul rarely achieves the desired result in the long term, it just lets people know they can get to you
