Care's inclusion is a bit of a surprise.

Whaddya wanna bet that he doesn't actually make the England XXIII for the Barbarians game? Or he sits on the bench for 79 minutes?

The squad looks okay, but I'd far rather us put time into Murley than Hassell-Collins - the former just has so much better game reading and decision-making.

Care should just tell Jones to shove it and go enjoy himself with the Barbarians, have a few drinks and play rugby for fun. Jones won't be picking him for serious games or tours anyway, otherwise he would have been in training squads already, on form.

The only reason to bring Care back is to play in the serious games, surely? If Youngs isnt going to Australia maybe Jones doesnt sufficiently trust the young SH's and wants a bit of experienced cover.

So all the Wasps lads bar Jack Willis that cut short their post season team holiday to cone train for three days have been axed. I dont think any of them merited inclusion on form, save Alo (and Tom Willis, but that's another argument), but it's still pretty shithouse from the England coaches

Not sure if I agree about them not meriting inclusion, but definitely agree that it's really harsh that these players literally flew back to England to cut short their holiday.

Yeah I don’t really get the Care call on a number of levels. Just can’t picture him being in the World Cup squad to be honest so what’s the point?

Tbh, Barbeary has been significantly underwhelming towards the end of the season, so I can absolutely understand if Jones feels it's better to give him time to recuperate/give him a boot up the arse instead of taking him to Australia.

Yes. I like Barbeary, who has tremendous potential but probably has a bit to go. Just another tedious example of the endless hyping of kids before they have remotely laid down a reputation for consistency/rugby smarts etc. You just have to read these boards. His time will certainly come. Given the depth of English back row talent, he probably would have been better to look at the hooker's jersey.

Not entirely fair, TJ clearly comes in at the end of that clip and makes a calming motion with his hand.

Whilst not "absolutely nothing" it's also not quite as much as a punch to the face ought to be receiving.

At least he knows who to blame even if with won’t reduce his ire.

Also wonder, with Barbeary having dropped off towards the end of the season, whether his non-selection indicates that Earl is back in contention when the full touring party is named. Suspect it massively increases Ted Hill's chances of touring too as a big back row carrier.

Both Earl and Hill have had very strong performances in recent months, whereas Barbeary hasn't. It's a losing battle for me but he isn't even the best 8 at Wasps.

I always thought Earl was a bit overrated (and his average loan spell at Bris served to convince me that like a lot of players he looks great in the Sarries machine but not elsewhere) but to be fair to him he is putting in big performances when it matters.

I don't watch many Sarries games, so I haven't seen a lot of Earl's grunt work, just highlights. Based on that and his England performances he seems like a bit of a luxury flanker. Is that unfair?

Pretty handy looking Barbarian squad taking shape. Mostly French based players. They look pretty competitive.

Luxury is harsh. He's Sarries main threat over the ball and scores quite a few tries through clever link play. Basically what you want in an openside, particularly when he's surrounded by the bruisers of the Sarries pack. His work rate is good and he carries quite a bit.

For England I think he's just a bit in-between. He's not a good enough to displace Curry from the 7 shirt but let's face it few are. He's not got the height to play the hybrid role at 6 and jump in the lineout like Eddie wants from Lawes and Chessum (Martin and Hill). At 8 he's not quite physical enough to get away with the carrying workload Eddie likes from an 8. He was a fairly ideal bench option as he could do enough across the backrow to cover all from the bench, similar to Ludlum but Eddie doesn't seem that fussed and Earl's England highlights reel would be quite dull.
