Team GB has won Golds in 14 different sports. No other country has won in more than10. Apparently. Put that in your crappy "per capita" pipe.

I missed the ladies' hockey as I was at, and travelling back from, Bedford v Sarries. I made a poor decision.
I think it must go down as one of the GB results of the games. Unbeaten and finishing way above their ranking. Off the top of my head, it must the biggest bit of punching above your weight along with the men's badminton doubles.

Probably best not to interview Martyn Rooney again just right now.......

Bronze in women's pole vault. Didn't see that coming. That equals our best result of 4 medals in non-sitting down sports at a single Olympics

Up to 60 medals then, with 2 days to go; 5 behind on London's total, but 3 ahead for the day-by-day. No chance of equalling the gold medal tally.

We've got Joyce and Adams to go with guaranteed medals
Farah and Daley as favourites
Heath and the women's four in Kayaking through to their finals today, with good chances
Jamie Cook starts the Pentathalon as favourite; but this doesn't seem to be a sport where the form-book matters
Walkden and Cho going in the Taekwondo too; with Walkden supposedly a favourite for a medal, and Cho a reaslistic chance; we're only at the last last 16 stage here, and again, the form-book can fly south pretty quickly.
3 Contenders in the Triathalon; but not with the expectation levels of the Brownlees
Oh, and Hull's still in with a chance in not-a-sport

Obviously, we have contenders in other events; but none I can see being talked about as medal expectations (eg 800m)

Tough on GB & Rooney, and Muhamnad too losing on last kick of final.
We're more used to this type of stuff.

Great gold for the womens hockey team but boy they were on the ropes for long periods of the game. That was one heck of a tenacious performance.

Great resilience from Team GB women in the hockey.

Quite a few nominations for a would you thread too! ;)

Gotta feel for Muhammad. To be a second away from a gold medal and to lose it in that fashion is rough. Very commendable silver though. The lad did very well.

Felt a little sorry for Cook too. He lost heavily in the quarters when he was expected to win and cut a very dejected figure afterwards. He switched representation from GB to the Isle of Man and then took Moldovan citizenship as he felt it was his only chance to get to the Olympics after being overlooked for London. Has to be smarting a bit!

Yep. I would go:
1. Quek
2. Hinch
3. Twigg
With honourable mentions to Danson, Unsworth and Bray.

Have you thought about emailing them all and letting them know?

Why send all those emails? Just send one to Team GB hockey and ask them to pass the offers on.

Why do that when I know where they all live.

Just copy and paste a generic one like you do on pof. You have lowered the tone.

How dare you!

My suggestion of a 'would you' thread meant a 'would you vote for them as SPOTY?' thread. I think that is pretty obvious.

Not sure why Mellsblue would only 'vote' for part of the team and leave out McCallin..she'd get my vote. All over her face ;)

Which Tyler wrote:I've posted these posts elsewhere (including one page ago); discussing the issue (though more in relation to improvements since Atlanta); also some people complaining that we spend too much on olympic sport, espeically the £ per medal table the Fail printed; which I believe assumed that 4 years worth of investment was the annual total; and was printed halfway through the olympics before the number of medals was known, but after the level of funding was (some were surprised that changing the number of medals won, whilst the amount already spent remained static would reduce the £ per medal - bloody idiots)
I'm not questioning whether the lottery funding works, it clearly does.
I'm more concerned that US Healthcare inc. is trying to rip apart our public healthcare and we're spending the proceeds of gambling on funding sports. Then our political elite claim it is a national triumph.

He should have run away. He was either stupid or arrogant. I feel for him because he'll almost certainly never get a chance like that again.

Walkden and Cho going in the Taekwondo too; with Walkden supposedly a favourite for a medal, and Cho a realistic chance; we're up to QFs now, and again, the form-book can fly south pretty quickly.

63, 1 more guarantee and 2 more favourites to go - we should do this.

Seemed an interesting bloke to me.

As did the young super heavyweight boxer.......the exchange between him and his mentor was quality:
'don't worry about the gold, just keep winning'.
'yeah,...keep it simple'.

London lawyers......we are judged by their profit margin/morals.
It sounds a bit like one of those automatically formulated letters your insurance company would send after you file a claim for being stabbed by your new girlfriends ex.

I get what Euge meant now. Thought he was on about the interview but he clearly meant running out of the ring.

Yeah, perhaps a bit daft in hindsight but still a rather unfortunate way to lose. He did very well all through the Olympics.
