not sure- Faz was immediately ruled out, and they said Ford couldn't be brought back on on commentary which i didnt understand....wheres my law book....
All the assumptions on here is that Ford off was tactical, so thats the question
You can replace an HIA for the period of the HIA check, but once confirmed his out, you have to remove the replacement, though you can perform a substitution. However, I think Farrell didn't have an HIA, they felt he'd been knocked out, therefore no HIA.

I really thought that was only with props, otherwise Robson would not have had to come on.

Great pass for May's try though.

Ford? Nope.

So he put on a prematurely balding halfback with about 15 minutes combined international experience to fill in at 10 and kept the actual 10 off?

Are you sure Eddie Jones is not an Irish asset?
Farrell was KOd, so no HIA performed, and no 10 minutes to decide things - and no return of a previously replaced player.

Ford's removal was tactical, and is only allowed back on temporarily for blood or HIA

Farrell was ko’d? Are you sure?

With an hia don’t you have to use any unused subs to replace the player first, unless it’s a prop going for the hia?

It was called by the independent Dr, which is usually a sign that it's a KO. On footage, it looked entirely possible, though we didn't get a good enough look for me to say so myself (whilst distracted).

And no, I don't think so - I'm pretty sure that for HIA or Blood patch-up, any player can come back on - they just have to be replaced properly after the allotted time

They caught Farrell getting clocked on the video replay by the remote docs. He went in for the big smash on someone (can't remember who) and ended on his back in a heap for about 15 seconds. It was a good call.

Henderson. Poor old Faz picked the wrong bloke and charged into a brick outhouse.

Erm... Anyone got a Times sub?

Apparently we could have brought Ford back on, but chose to play Robson at 10 instead...

England insist they knew that George Ford could have been sent back onto the field against Ireland when Owen Farrell was removed for a head injury assessment — but decided to deploy Dan Robson at fly half instead.

Ford, England’s starting fly half with 76 Test caps, was substituted five minutes before an independent doctor demanded that Farrell be removed from the field after his collision with Iain Henderson, the Ireland lock.

Under the rules governing head injury assessments, Ford was permitted to return to the field to replace Farrell. It was at a point in the game when England were trying to engineer a comeback from 26-6 down with 25 minutes remaining.

However, Eddie Jones, the head coach, replaced Farrell with Robson and asked the scrum-half to fill in at fly-half for the remainder of the game, raising questions as to whether England had made a mistake.

England said that there was no misunderstanding of the regulations and that the decision to finish the match with two scrum halves on the field was a tactical call made by the coaches.

“In terms of George and Owen going off, at the stage of the game it did not feel like too big an issue because all bets are off,” Jonny May, the wing, said.

“We just wanted to whip it around a bit and have a crack. That’s what Dan has done in training the whole time so it felt like who cares now, let’s keep going till the end and give it everything we can.”

England did run in two tries in the final quarter: Ben Youngs scored when Ireland had 14 men, after Bundee Aki’s red card, and May touched down when the hosts had been reduced to 13 men, with Conor Murray in the sin bin.

Ford would not have been permitted to return had England recorded on the paperwork that he was replaced by Joe Marchant for injury reasons.

However, the RFU confirmed Ford’s initial substitution was tactical. Under Law 3.33, that would have allowed him to return to the field when Farrell was removed.

The law states tactically replaced players may return for five reasons, one of which is in the case of an HIA.

So is May head coach or Corporal Jones?

"We just wanted to whip it around a bit and have a crack"

And you couldnt do that with a proper 10 playing 10, rather than a SH?

I think its a load of crap, covering up they didn't know that Ford could have gone on, at least temporarily.

Farrell apparently was a nasty stinger, rather than a head injury. I was dubious as to claims he’d been knocked out earlier in the thread, as I was sure he could be heard immediately yelping in pain on the ref mic.

Let Ford actually go for it? With two centres who like to attack? Are you mad?

Games open up late on. Ireland pretty much had the game won and England flung it about because they had no option. Youngs controlled what England did and Robson basically played like it was 7s. Robson's made a career of playing heads up so he was in his element. Possibly why he won't make it as an international scrum half as you rarely get that much time on the ball.

It must be this, musnt it?

I mean no serious coach would ignore a genuine and experienced FH in favour of a player who has probably never played in that position.

Unless FKAS is a serious coach, no.

I was certainly wondering when he came on. At first I thought Daly might go to fh and Robson to wing.
Clearly sounds like a 'oh yeah we meant to do that' load of bs though!

The decision that worries me most is the consistent removal of our most creative back when we need to play catch up.

But you've got to like Eddie still saying the ambition is to be the best side ever. One wonders just how impressive England would need to be from now until the end of Eddie's tenure (supposing that ends with the next WC) to even rank for possible discussion on such terms. We might need to win the next 20 something games all by 30+ points playing some scintillating stuff
