Is that steele in the scrum?
What's the record for the biggest discrepancy in height between substitutes?

I've asked before and probs will again but why don't teams tap and go anymore? What's the obsession with taking a lineout off a penalty?

Jesus. I don't know what to say. So many errors. So many crazy attempts at miracle plays.

Ireland looked like the better team, but still...
It's not really surprising that we gave away the winning score by being simply unable to put a box kick away.
I mean, why kick it in the first place? And then why not just get the basics right?

Why is Poite interpreting the breakdown differently when he feels like it? I heard him earlier saying that a player wasn’t trying to lift the ball so it wasn’t a penalty. Ireland won their last 2 penalties by wrapping the player on the ground

God I hate saying it, but very well spoken from Sexton at the end there.

I'd imagine the Russell/coach relationship will dissolve again
Russell deserved to be hauled off after kicking it dead, hes so far up his own arse, thinks he can just laugh at the couple of huge mistakes he makes every game

Tbh I think we would be a better team with someone like Hastings in there as a regular.

Couldn't disagree more. Russell was not the reason we lost today. You're never winning any game if you lose over half of your lineouts. That was the unacceptable bit.

Yeah, I mean there's not many who make that try look like a natural set of skills, but on a day like this (when we can't get a foothold with possession) to see those mistakes getting more and more frequent it was very frustrating. He does some incredible stuff but it's really tough on days like this.
The Irish line speed in the first half really shut him (and his options) down in terms of attacking the line, where Russell is at his best, and then came the pointless looped passes out to the wing the nonchalant errors. With no consistent set-piece ball he just took on himself to be the something-from-nothing man, and Hogg looked similarly minded towards the end when at 10. Hastings is the same breed.
What do we actually do if not allow Russell freedom to play his game?

Man, let him play. He gives you options you simply won't get with box kicking and play by numbers.

This is generally my outlook and then along come Ireland and show that you can be very effective at playing a game you clearly despise.

Scotland can't play that game though. We don't have the horses up front. Russell gives us the best chance to win. Does he try too much sometimes? Of course he does, he's playing for Scotland who have been rubbish for 22 years now

Apologies. There's been a tendency in the past for Scotland supporters to pile onto the mercurial when games are lost for deficiencies elsewhere, in this case in the lineout

Really? Some of you lot piling into Russell. He had one bad kick for touch. I've seen every ten in the 6N (including Sexton today) miss kicks for touch this season. It didn't even cost us as Jones' try came from the scrum. I just think some people can't excuse Russell for enjoying playing rugby. He didn't even try anything particularly risky today.
I don't think you can really fault our gameplan today. To be that close when you can't win a lineout shows something. We all knew Turner was third choice and today it showed. We had jumpers free a few of those times.
The other main issue was the high ball but you can probably give Ireland credit for that. As with the breakdown, I don't like the way Polite refs it but Ireland clearly know how to play him better than we do.

Anyone actually want to take a punt on what it was that was really going wrong there?
I've been at a point an attacking line-out only brings me fear or apathy when watching Scotland. So much that I often don't notice the days it goes well. It certainly seemed like the stats were a good indicator of our solidity in that area so far in the tournament. Was that just vastly inferior England and Wales line-outs?
Do we actually have much we can do about it personnel-wise?

I think the issue today was mainly the throwing though we don't have the lankiest locks.
I think in throwing ability it goes McInally, Cherry, Brown, Turner. Brown and Turner do enough around the park to make up for it normally but I would have brought Cherry on earlier today.

Most were poor throws.
Turner could have been hooked at half time.

Maybe.
But when we have players giving away 6 points at a time in penalties then not sure it matters who is playing 10.
I'm not sure I want to see Price in a Scotland shirt anytime soon. I know that's harsh right now but ffs.
