So apparently Solomon's answer to the second half performance is get all of the players in for a really hard pre-season fitness session. I may be going senile but I seem to remember hearing that this time last year, weren't we told that our league position was because the conditioning of the players wasn't good enough. Might the tiredness have something to do with the fact that the front five weren't rotated all season?

Myreside confirmed. 6 games next season with a view to all games from season after except ones with anticipated high attendance. Despite my reservations above I think that is worth a go. Cant wait for the perfect solution

Reportedly temporary stands to increase capacity to around 6k. Good if it can be managed. 3-4k would be too low but will depend on how Ed are doing by the time they pitch up there

That would be good

Interestingly both European competitions were won by sides playing a very similar brand of rugby to Edinburgh, albeit with more aptitude.

Seems sensible to have another option.

Seems sensible but I'd rather have had one year with an option for a second. He's ok given what we've had has been so rubbish but I'd be hoping that Kinghorn supplants him as second choice.

You'll still need a 3rd player and I can't imagine he's on a huge amount of money. Besides quite often when hey announce contracts they lie about the length and "3 years" tur out to be 1 and half years plus possibly another.

Weir is on his way over for 2 years I think.

Second choice? Tovey is a far more complete fly half than Weir.

Any way you look at it, they are in a much better position than this year when they had no recognised 10 on the books.

Yeah the whole contract thing annoys me. Thankfully not as bad as the NFL though.

I'd be reasonably content with Kinghorn as 3rd/4th choice. Weir is unlikely to be away with Scotland as things stand, Tovey rightfully clearly isn't in the Welsh picture and although far from ideal as a regular 10 Burleigh would be ok as emergency cover. There is also Ruairi Howarth who is capable of playing 10 if need be, although he has yet to make the break through to senior rugby.

Weir - 25
Tovey - 27
Kinghorn - 19 (not 20 until 2017)
Burleigh - 29
Howarth - 19 (20 by time 16/17 season starts)

Going from entering last season with no recognised 10 (well Te Rue but he has been injured all year and is unproven) to what is available going forward, and the potential of one or two, I think there is reason for cautious optimism that from having no play at 10 there will be competent play next season. Just competent 10 play will not challenge for the play offs but might help a team turn so many losing BPs (8) into 2 or 3 wins and the 3 or 4 games where the they scored 3 tries with at least 20 to go (2 games with 50 to go) into an extra 2 points and that could make a decent difference.

Been having a back and forth with a boy on the Edinburgh forum where at one point yesterday said there is similarities between the job that Lineen did and Solomons is doing.

I just can't see it. There has been not much improvement this year upon last.

I don't know. Maybe Solomons is my coaching equivalent of Pat and Wilson. I just can't see what others apparently do.

You've been debating on the Embra forum.

Absolutely not, he must be mental.

You don't hand out 1 year contracts to people you have faith in.

With Fife out of contract maybe Bristol would be an option for him now they are confirmed as up.

They need a full back not a winger. Even so he won't oust Varndell and Lemi plus a couple of decent solid English lads backing them up.

Glasgow is most likely option. I could see Newcastle making him an offer, they love a good Scottish bargain.

Aussie winger Alex Northam signs. He's bloody rapid. He'll soon learn what it really means to be cold and bored playing Solly's style.

Good signing. I am a little concerned at how many NSQ players Edinburgh are signing though. No numbers to hand but I already felt like they had too many and it seems to be growing. Happy to be proved wrong.

Wing is a weak position for Scotland depth-wise and we now have three (?) NSQ players in this position in Scotland.
