Saw a rumour Turner is off to Japan.
Probably means he is staying put.

Warriors v Sharks this week. Sharks have listed a much weaker team than v Edinburgh last week. Fair to call it a near 2nd XV, and should be a Glasgow win

Big day of player news. Fraser Brown has retired. If Turner is off, that just leaves Matthews, Fraser and Hiddlestone. I presume they will look for someone with some experience to fill in in case of injuries.

Grant Stewart, 2 years.
Good signing. Surprisingly released a couple of seasons back, will now be the old head after Mathews. And won't cost a fortune. Good move all round.

Probably won't last but enjoy it while we can. Warriors top of the league with 3 games to go.

Glasgo wscore ealy then getting walloped by Bulls, big time. Yet in the end nearly nicked a win, get a LBP and a 4 try BP. Quite a game

Whole front row subbed after half an hour?! Was that pre-planned (like I think Italy did for a bit) or were they just getting smashed in the scrum?

planned apparently. Stewart had gone down with a couple of knocks, which ref suspected but dis not act on were time wasting, but essentially the starting front row of Bhatti, Stewart and Murphy had had very little game time, so 30mins and offMikey Brown wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2024 9:43 pm Whole front row subbed after half an hour?! To explain a wee bit whole team were blowing out of their arse after 20mins, 29C at altitude. Yet finished looking the fitter team

Yeah, that plan seemed to work to some extent, though the new front row didnt make the impact hoped in the spell immediately after they came on.
After 60 mins I was ready to come on saying it was another worrying performance from the Warriors when they come up against top opposition. Now I don't know what to think.

I think sometimes Glasgow are slow starters, even when they score first and early. Odd, but I think that is right!
Beyond that I'm not convinced Glasgow are quite good enough to win their way toa title, even if they manage all "home" games. But I do think they are close, and there is a bit about them if you know what I mean. They fight hard. And have some very very good youngsters coming through (not all of whom featured yesterday)

It does worry me though (much more so with Edinburgh TBF, and I know Glasgow had rotated a bit yesterday) that against top opposition I find myself thinking: 'they are doing well to hang on' or 'can't expect them to beat this lot'. I then remember that they are almost all full internationals.

I find there is a bit of that before every game - either because the opposition are good or they are a banana skin waiting for us. I like this in players too, a need to prove themselves every game!
As to them all being full internationals, I always discount that. With only 2 pro teams, a run of form or an injury somewhere and pretty much every SQ pro player in Scotland will get a cap at some point. No doubt will be a few more this summer who get a cap and then just be pro team squad fillers

Cheers. It somehow didn’t click when I mentioned Italy earlier that it may well have been Franco Smith who was adopting that tactic back then too.septic 9 wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 3:18 pmFranco Smith answering your questionMikey Brown wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2024 9:43 pm Whole front row subbed after half an hour?! I like the general thinking and, cynical as it may be, it still allows you the emergency front row cover from the starters if the replacements get injured.

Very poor performance and result against 14 men. Looked like they would pull away at some point but Lions scored back to back to back long range tries.
Some decent play but the passing isnt quite good enough and some of the rucks are sloppy.

awful display.
As you say looked like coasting to a win, but even before the red card they started to play away from the game plan and played a combination of stupid tactics and harlem globetrotters. Whether that was down to thinking it was already job done against 14 (13 for a bit) or just shit decisions fueled by heat and altitude who knows. Several players were certainly out on their feet for the last 20mins, and George Horne for the 2nd week in a row was poor and made poor decisions
They are as I said a few days back a good side but not a silverware winning side

As you mentioned some very poor decision making. Playing against 14 men and rather than making use of the extra man and for a period extra 2, they kept kicking it back to them and allowing the Lions to attack them at speed. Poor passing and tackling gave the Lions the game. Franco should be reading them the riot act today.septic 9 wrote: ↑Sun May 19, 2024 11:05 amawful display.

Does that mean Price is permanent at Edinburgh or is that still up in the air?
Turner is an odd one and it's a shame Kebble never really took to test rugby.

Big statement of faith in the young hookers and props - quite refreshing to see. Hope that Turner picks up a good contract somewhere though (not Newcastle).Mikey Brown wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 10:55 am https://glasgowwarriors.org/glasgow-war ... rw2fBHDFpq

Gordon is the surprising one to me. Can't now think of a backup for Darge with an openside skill set.

6 tries v Zebre at home sounds good on paper. But Glasgow did their best to lose for a first time ever against them. It was in fact a very poor performances against a really poor team.
Weir cannot play the style needed. Dobie is disappointing and now looks a better wing option than starting 9 - has developed the Laidlaw one step before passing habit badly. That delay is crucial, all the quick ruck ball negated and allows rush defence in their faces that fraction earlier. And despite that too many miracle balls, often to no-one.
Same as week before.
As with Edinburgh some arses need kicked, at least Smith still has some rugby left to decide how he acts
