He has been pretty anonymous in open play v Swe & Cro and started dropping deep again, meaning Eng did not have much of a focal point for attacks. He goes to ground a bit too easily for my liking and he missed a couple of good chances v Cro.
Having said that he has captained the team to a semi final and the whole team seems to respect him, so for a young player there is potential there. He has bagged goals and his work around the set-pieces is good.
Still, a big step up from 2 years ago so if he keeps free of injury, World Class is something he is capable of becoming.
The ITV experts thought he might be carrying an injury as an explanation, given the rough-house treatment Colombia gave him that is possible.

Golden boot for taking a load of penalties and being a flat track bully who went missing against decent opposition - not that he was helped by Alli or Lingard.

Berlin Final - Some of the younger teammates appeared to be frustrated by his lack of movenent, and he didn't win much from his duels.Subd. again.
He's had a great goal scoring run for club & country over recent years and is respected for his leadership on & off the pitch, but
his team fell just short again.
So close for Munich & Eng - he's only 30, still time .. :)

The problem is that his ideal style of play is dropping deeper and playing the ball, so he's yet another person fighting for the space being taken up by Bellingham and Foden (and Mainoo to a certain extent). He works best if we have pace to run past him, like we used to with Sterling/Rashford/etc but the only person we've got for that is Saka. We needed to either drop him and play a fleeter forward, or drop Foden and put a genuine quick left wing like Gordon to relieve the pressure on the central space in front of the box.

He’s injured. And obviously so. The Hungarian commentator described him as moving like a scarecrow with cramp🤣

He should not have started the past 2 games, he was not sharp enough. Don’t be surprised if he instantly gets surgery on something, just like Bellingham will.

Madness to start him considering how good Ivan Toney is, and madness not to bring Toney off the bench.
