Re: Billy Vunipola
People are free to express their views. It does not mean they are free from criticism for them.
I too noticed all the Saffas standing, in what surely must be a coordinated thing. The religious reasoning is nothing but an excuse, for the many reasons of crass hypocrisy expressed by others (playing on Sundays, having tattoos, wearing two types of cloth etc).
The supposed hard-left Marxism of BLM is a complete windup from the right wing of British politics, designed to discredit them. That those same people retort with "all lives matter", yet don't give a shit about kids drowning in the Channel, shows them for what they really are

Say what you want, pretty impressive we’ve managed to discuss all 3 things you shouldn’t talk about at the dinner table (Sex, religion, politics) in one thread.

Its all just a battle of ignorance anyway. The kneelers will say those standing are ignorant of the true plight that black people go through on a day to day basis and the statistics, and those standing will say those kneeling are ignorant of another set of statistics, religious clashes and political leanings.
I’m all for debate, but when it gravitates towards cancel culture just because someone has grown up in different circumstances and been exposed to different “facts” then it gets a bit silly.

Cancel culture? Surely if there was anything to it we wouldn’t have heard of it?padprop wrote:Its all just a battle of ignorance anyway. Most people I have heard moaning about cancel culture do so on their radio or tv shows, or maybe in a best selling book.

And another pop culture phrase sneaks into common use. Cancel culture. Brilliant.

To be fair, if you were to be cancelled, talking about it on your own show or book is the only place you could do it, thats kind of the pointcanta_brian wrote:Cancel culture? Must say I’ve enjoyed the debates on this forum regarding this and the Exeter Chiefs. Glad to see it hasn’t gone the way of twitter, only healthy to have a mix of views

Sorry for the delay. He chose to stand to attention and salute instead.Puja wrote:What was it, out of interest?Which Tyler wrote:Rokoduguni also failed to take a knee.
He had a far better rationale IMO
He just felt that, as a serving soldier, it was a more appropriate sign of respect and support, than taking a knee.

Ah. My knee jerk response was “bit of an own goal”, but then remembered that the UK, unlike the USA, doesn’t have national anthem and flag porn at events ranging from drinking games to international sporting fixtures.

I don't have much to add. I would say that Vunipola's original comment:
“Man was made for woman to pro create that was the goal no?”
Negates any sympathy I have for any of his defences re religious beliefs etc. He can believe what he likes but this comment is just crass and objectionably. Apart from anything else, if that is the only goal and we should ignore human happiness, love and anything that goes with it, then I hope he has at least 10 kids by now.

As a serving soldier he is also expressly forbidden from engaging in political acts such as knee-taking anyway, regardless of his personal opinionsPuja wrote:Can't fault his reasoning.Which Tyler wrote:Sorry for the delay. He chose to stand to attention and salute instead.Puja wrote:

Didn't think of that bit - how does his standing to attention and saluting fit in?Peej wrote:As a serving soldier he is also expressly forbidden from engaging in political acts such as knee-taking anyway, regardless of his personal opinionsPuja wrote:Can't fault his reasoning.Which Tyler wrote: Sorry for the delay. Saluting during a moment's silence is not a political act, I guess?

The army had advised staff that kneeling would be overly political a move, leaving open I suppose the standing to attention and saluting option if they weren't instructed about that. Whether the advice to staff was based on when they're in uniform I don't know. Any which way I don't have an issue with what Roko did

Re: Billy Vunipola
It seems like an odd directive, especially since not kneeling in a situation where most are is also a fairly political move as well. Still, sounds like Roko found a good space within the wording of his orders and well done for him.Digby wrote:The army had advised staff that kneeling would be overly political a move, leaving open I suppose the standing to attention and saluting option if they weren't instructed about that. Grannypants making the point that death threats aimed at players, specifically his team mates, not taking a knee is rather misunderstanding the movement
