Yep agreed. Could get chaotic but happy to see what happens. "Use it" comes far too late for my moneyMagic_sponge wrote:Agree on the march 10, definitely seen more of it this season too which I can definitely get behind. I would also like to see them following up on the "use it 9...use it now...no seriously...I mean it, use it...one of these days..."
I thought he was going to snap today, I have thought for a while maunder in particular takes his time, but would love to see that clamped down on. For me the law should be changed to if you take too long, it's "out" and you can come round the ruck and do whatever.

Yes. When was the last time you saw a player penalized after the ref's "use it" call. It's a joke, just like squint feeds to every scrum in every game. This is so blatant that now scrumhalves face backwards (towards their own goal line) when putting the ball into the second row. See many scrums won against the head these days?Danno wrote:Yep agreed. That's a massive pet peeve of mine - so many times the 9 just carries on like, "Yeah, yeah, sure. I'll get round to it soon." Refs should just blow the second it goes over 5 - the 9s would learn to count pretty damned quickly after the first couple. Either that the refs could take a page out of Marler's book and start ostentatiously counting out loud.Magic_sponge wrote:Agree on the march 10, definitely seen more of it this season too which I can definitely get behind. Who was it a couple of years back who pinged the 9 taking the first box kick of the game? It was inside the first few minutes and then set the tone for the rest of it because the 9s knew they couldn't mess about as sir had shown he was more than happy to actually enforce the law.Puja wrote:That's a massive pet peeve of mine - so many times the 9 just carries on like, "Yeah, yeah, sure. If enforcing the 'use-it' instruction led to more charge-downs and fewer box kicks it would improve the game significantly, IMO.
Kicking the ball up in the air aimlessly or to a defender under no pressure makes for a boring spectacle. Healey, for once, was spot-on calling for grubbers with a greasy ball. Slade, by doing just that, showed he could think and act. He is improving, in terms of affecting the game, nearly every time he plays.

Whats frustrating about this issue is that its a simple fix. Refs just have to make it very clear that when they call "use it" the SH has a few seconds to do just that. If they dont, award a scrum to the opposition. The ref wouldnt have to do it more than once or twice for the message to be clearly understood.

That was the first game that it was brought in, right? I don't remember the ref, but I remember his five count must've been "OneTwoThrFrFive!" cause he called it after about 3 seconds just so he could ping it early.FKAS wrote:Who was it a couple of years back who pinged the 9 taking the first box kick of the game? I think he called "use it" as soon as it was presented so by the time the scrummy had got into position he was blowing the whistle. After that one harsh call he didn't need to do it again though because the 9s weren't hanging around. It's what yesterday's game needed, call when early and then we'd have had a much more up tempo game.Puja wrote:That was the first game that it was brought in, right? The only time 29 players should be stood around is during a kick at goal, not waiting for a 9 to rearrange his junk as he lines up for a box kick. Almost the ball should be in play the moment he puts his hand on it

This. As well as the squint feeds, which live look totally crookjed and on review on tv are even worse. There has only been one occassion I remember where a ref has also enforced the 9 to use his foot to bring the ball back not his hands. If they are going to reach in to bring it back, whether they lift it or not the ref should call it out.p/d wrote:The only time 29 players should be stood around is during a kick at goal, not waiting for a 9 to rearrange his junk as he lines up for a box kick. How does he get his ball in play if he doesn’t rearrange his junk?p/d wrote:The only time 29 players should be stood around is during a kick at goal, not waiting for a 9 to rearrange his junk as he lines up for a box kick. Almost the ball should be in play the moment he puts his hand on it
