Well I've said it- they had three at least solid chances to at least secure the home tie. They dominated a key period and definitely an opportunity missed for me. Willis was immense to be fair....amazing all round statsWhich Tyler wrote: ↑Sun Jan 21, 2024 5:32 pmIMO it's hard to say that a team who never once held the lead, should have won.
Yeah, we had a good 15 minutes, but then, Toulouse had better first 20 and last 15 minutes.
Anyway, Bayonne v Exeter.
What result do I cheer for, for Bath to avoid teams who've no place in a European competition?
It'd be nice to be interested for at least one more round.

A] we're allowed to have different opinions, but B] that still sounds like coulda, rather than shoulda.
I absolutely agree that we could have won that, thta we had chances that we didn't take, and that it's an opportunity missed.
But we weren't the better team, and a 15 minute "better" patch has no right to trump 35 minutes of "better" patch.

indeed
and I think you were the better side. 50/50 possession, scrum parity, better lineout, better tackle completion, more time in redzone I think...but they had Willis and Dupont.

Well, that was a cracking match, basking in the first half sunshine! Bravo to Bath who certainly upset the Toulouse apple cart with some aggressive and inventive play and deserved at least a losing bp.
The ref incensed the local one-eyed supporters, which is par for the course at the Stade Ernest Wallon, with some rather strange decisions (for both teams), but I'm pleased with the win and will try and get to the last 16 match at home to Racing.
Finally, the pre-match food was excellent and beats by a country kilometre the soggy cheeseburger that I had the last time I was at Welford Road!

Obano looks every inch a test prop to me. Hope he gets some game time in the 6 Nations.

Injuries have been the main issue for him. Hopefully he gets an injury free run and stands a great chance of starting Vs Italy given Marler and Genge have both had injuries.

I was quite impresssed with Lawrence and Ojomoh who looked threatening but the Toulouse defence just about did enough, particularly Jack Willis.
The normally outstanding Mauvaka had an off day, especially at the line out when at least a couple of throws were pinged for not being straight, but having Julien Marchand on the bench is a pure luxury, but there've been rumours that Mauvaka may be looking for a move to a club where he'll be undisputed first choice.

Hope not. We're thin on the ground for looseheads as it is.

Marler did play at the weekend and Genge is rumoured back in training, so not quite as fraught as it could be.

Re: Toulouse vs Bath - Sunday
Marler played a couple of games at the end of December then sat out a couple of weeks and player at the weekend. It's not so bad for him he should be fine. Genge hasn't played a game since 2nd December, month and a half out he's likely to be a bit rusty.
Could very much do without Obano getting injured and ideally starting Vs Italy.
