Yeah, I'm not outraged by the red or anything, but I'd say yellow because of indirect contact and I don't see it as a high degree of force. It is lazy though and if it were deemed a yellow that would be more luck than judgement.

If Kata was completely mentally competent, then I'd be in favour of throwing the book at him, cause it's exactly the same thing that he got sent off for last season and shows a lack of learning, but I'm willing to give him a lot of leeway if he barely knew where he was.

It's definitely a red - if tackler's shoulder is higher than the ballcarrier's shoulder, I'd call it red-until-proven-otherwise.
But yes, I'd have thought having been concussed should mitigate things down, but then, previous (IIRC) mitigates it back up, I'm not sure there's a good answer there, and probably depend on the results of the nearest SCAT5 test (perfectly possible to be KO.d and not concussed, perfectly possible to fail an HIA and be more-or-less fully compus mentus; but also possible to not know who you are or what day of the week it is -any mitigation for concussion should be a degree, and a matter of how concussed - IMO).

The extra week on the ban due to RTP protocols though - that stinks, even if I can see how it came about - law of unintended consequences.

Do we know if there’s been any sanction for the independent doctor?

Agreed. I thought red a touch harsh considering Haydon-Wood only got a yellow slightly later but I didn't have much sympathy and Kata doesn't need to rush out the line to make that tackle. Will let him off a bit if he was feeling dazed though if feeling dazed he needs to go and get a HIA.

Cause we've never seen England internationals have bans that conveniently end in time for international windows.

From the transcript I'd say the doc was also being a dick (a condescending one at that) as well. Lesson from it is to just not go into the medical room and deal with the outcomes through official channels.
