Now that was cracking stuff and great to see Copeland getting the try after his intercept.

Can’t see that there was anything wrong there?

Fuck the ref! He could see that there was no double movement.

Dreadful for the first 20 minutes; impressive thereafter.

It looked ominous at the start we looked clueless in defence, after that opening quarter I thought our pack was impressive and of the back line Wooton & Nash were very good. But Keatley kept kicking away the possession which was entirely the wrong thing to do to their back three.
I thought the ref/TMO combo made two absolute howlers, the trip was deliberate and should have earned a yellow card & the claim of a double movement was just bizarre, we've all seen tries like that given.

Re: The I'll Start a Munster Thread Before ... Thread
A couple of seasons ago (It may well have been this fixture) I defended Mitrea, arguing that he was learning his trade and might miss one or two things in his apparent style of letting the game flow. He got both the trip and the Cronin try wrong yesterday, and arguably the call to the TMO for Hart's try and the pass for Wooton's. These four calls were all made in slow-time and can not be attributed to anything other than the obvious fact that those fecking Changleng aliens are back and have taken over his body.
Our half-backs were desperately awful last night; three or four hoofs out on the full and God alone knows how many aimless punts into the arms of a Scarlets backline with open space in front of them. While Wooton made an effort to get to some of them, hardly a single box or Garryowen was put into a contestable position; with the loss of Conway, Zebo, Earls and Sweetnam and the absence of Murray we have no aerial game so why the fuck try and play it against a team that thrives on the open field that this gifts them? Was JvG so intent on video analysis of Llanelli that he neglected to do any form of analysis of his own lads?
On the plus side, our starting front row was immense for 45 minutes and the bench (With the exception of Niall's first throw) carried on the motion. Klein had a huge game and Billy put in a cracking shift. It is quite a shame that he is likely to see far less game time next season with the arrival of Beirne. The back row matched their counterparts, but Shingler saw far too much ball for my liking. Jack must be having a devil of a job getting all that chalk off his boots this morning. I hope that the shoulder is not as bad as it appears and that we'll see TOD back soon.
Sam had yet another cracking game - he was MOTM for me. With Chris and Jaco hopefully back next season and Rory somehow finding his Mojo, we might have a couple of really deadly centre options. The back three were very much a mixed bag. I thought Wooton and Nash played well enough, but JJ is lost as a defensive 15. Can we accept that the experiment has been tried and has failed? Fitzgerald and Goggins both impressed when they came on; Fitzgerald's pass for Wooton's try was top drawer stuff (Though quite obviously forward if you are a Scarlets fan).
Overall a satisfactory win against a side that on paper should have thrashed us and looked like doing so for the first 15 minutes. The lads showed great character to tighten the bolts and didn't look like losing it once they got their noses in front. I'm not sure that we'll get away with nearly as much next weekend.

... and its great to see that we'll be facing a Toulon coming off the back of a particularly disappointing 49-0 win over ASM!

Munster had it in the bag after they decided to go back to the traditional 10-man rugby approach and bogger the fancy Dan stuff. Wooton always plays well and seems to have overhauled Sweetnam in the peck order.BBD wrote:It looked ominous at the start we looked clueless in defence, after that opening quarter I thought our pack was impressive and of the back line Wooton & Nash were very good. Are there, like, two hairdressers in all of Ireland or what?
That last try isn't one you see veery day. Awarded after an age of deliberation.

Stop Press !!! - Nigel Owens awarded Freedom of the city of Limerick.
Great stuff from Munster.
Some great midfield defence on Nonu/Fat Bast.
Frogs rattled and showing poor discipline.

Why did their lock just run smack into the defender when he made that break?

Christ
I've knocked Conway in the past but that was amazing
We got the breaks but grabbed victory from the bowels of defeat

I have been shouting Conway’s praises for the last couple of seasons; the same with Sweetnam. We were a better side when Darren came on (Though sad that Simon’s last European game at TP ended as it did). Andy’s tackle on Tuisova was absolutely top drawer and early as it was, set the tone of the match. The try was sublime from his reading of the kick, the planting of his feet, the fingertip catch turning straight into a blistering run that just left them slack jawed (Check out Bastareaud reading them out in the background of the celebrations). I think the lad knew what he was going to do before it even left Trinh Duc’s boot.

That whole Munster team deserves a relaxing, one week, all-expences break in Birr, so they do!
