I agree that we arent playing as well in that game. I also think it is simplistic to say, we did it then, its unacceptable not to do it in every game. No team in history has solved the conundrum of getting peak performance every game. Everyone accepts we are too inconsistent though

This is 100% true but also begs the question if that game plan was the way to take on the worlds best, why haven't we been practicing and refining it ever since?
This is my single biggest frustration with GT and I think the root of a lot of the frustrations expressed here. Its like he showed us the promised land then said nah, fck it, lets not go there ever again.

Seems to have been a long standing Scottish trait (across many sports) that we play up or down to the level of the opposition on the day. Love the underdog (lack of expectation) hate being favourites (through demonstrated capability only recently). Hostage to fortune is another recurring theme. "Oh well, not our day/injuries/referee"
The All Blacks game was a case of believing in their own ability against the best then having the wherewithal to express it. Wales this year was believing what everyone else said about their ability then failing to express it.
Comes back to maintaining standards. All Blacks have mastered this for years. Once you have shown you are good enough the expectation to come up to that standard next time out is reasonable I think.

What worries me more - and I expect to get some flak for this - is that as long as we are using Sevens as our player development platform, we can hardly expect to be producing a world-class pack.
