He hasn't penalised that once all game now decides to do so. Right decision but frustrating.

Brown is thick as pig shit in those situations. Does it far far too often.

Stupid from Brown but I don't like diving in rugby. Should be a bannable offense. It's just cheating

So if you squeeze someone in the face but it’s not their eyes, that’s allowed? Prick ref.

No ref on the planet gives that as a pen and neither should they IMO.General Zod wrote:So if you squeeze someone in the face but it’s not their eyes, that’s allowed? Prick ref.

That felt like our penalty that the ref didn't want to give. Brown was pretty good getting away

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Same shit isn’t it. Let opportunities pass us by, give away dim penalties and field position, then it’s just a matter of time before the opposition get on top.Donny osmond wrote:Shit shit shit we are just shit

A first half like that always feels like a foundation for a good performance, then it turns out to have actually been the peak.
I do think some dodgy ref decisions around half time really halted our momentum, but we need to be able to stand up to that.

Re: Autumn Squad
The yellow card seemed to really change the game. Before it we were on top, but hadn't made it count of the scoreboard. Playing with 14 men the Irish were able to impose their physicality on us and we're just able to wait for our mistakes, of which there were many that resulted in penalties.
The other lesson is that not playing rugby works if you are the slightly more physical team. Eddie Jones will be delighted, but we can't win that way with this group of players.
Doris motm for me. Lions 8 potentially with another 6 months to grow at this level

God the rugby this autumn has been fckin awful.
Can’t win a game without the ball. Barely had it for the last 50mins. Indiscipline, errors and a picky ref.

Feels like one step forward and about ten back with this team.

Yep, successfully defended a few mauls today and a handful of other things went out the window.Chunks Baws wrote:Feels like one step forward and about ten back with this team.
Is anyone else concerned about Hogg? Days like today I think we might as well just have Maitland at the back.

What position did Jones play when he came on? I was in the kitchen for most of the last ten.

As far as I could tell he was in the centre..
Might be wrong, with Prime rugby coverage, feel as though I`m watching through water filled goggles..

Kind of like an old schools game against Ireland. We played really well and dominated for 30 mins but couldn't score. After that we struggled to get the ball or get turnovers.
I'm not too down about the team though.
P.S. Happy with Matt Fagerson. He has carried well the last two matches. He's first choice 8 for me.

Also, Harris was decent in attack first half. If I hadn't seen him play the last ten games I would be up for giving him a few games to see what he can do.

Don`t like to be negative about players who risk life and limb, but Blade T. must do a tremendous amount of "unseen" work to justify his selection.

Yeah I’m not really seeing much from him yet, and I know it was just one of many, many errors but that incredibly shite pass to VDW early on really killed a promising buildup.

Scotland have unearthed a great wing in Duhan VDM. Big, fast and powerful with a nose for the line. He and May have been the standout wings of the autumn games. A good bet for a Lions tour next summer.

I thought he looked pretty underpowered at times. 1st choice 8 by default more than because he is standing out imo.Cameo wrote:Kind of like an old schools game against Ireland. Really? Not seen the stats but I feel his footwork gets him quite a few metres after the initial tackler. Be nice if he was BV size but I think he can be a good option.Big D wrote:I thought he looked pretty underpowered at times. 1st choice 8 by default more than because he is standing out imo.Cameo wrote:Kind of like an old schools game against Ireland. Re: Autumn Squad
I really like Fagerson and certainly don’t see it as him getting embarrassed as a backrow by the Irish. Our pack came off second best as a whole. The penalty count and the amount of times we coughed up the ball made it impossible.
Russell or Hastings may have helped the forwards out a little by bringing runners in to the game within somewhere near the gainline, but I don’t think they could have turned that result yesterday. VDW was better than I’d expected it still had a few bad handling errors and offers no threat to a defence.
Harris was probably our best player, which is a worry in itself because he certainly didn’t do anything spectacular. He’s so limited but I can see why the coaches are desperate for someone with his physicality and abrasion in the backs.
Hogg cannot continue as captain. It just doesn’t make sense. Talk about Ali Price and his regular clangers all you want, but Hogg has contributed several of the dumbest errors I’ve seen in rugby this season. He’s certainly playing himself off of the Lions tour if he brings this to the 6 nations. I don’t know what’s behind it but he really seems to have regressed on the fullback basics and is seemingly trying too hard in attack.
Gray is the only realistic option in the pack right now though and seems to be considered by many as too quiet. Brown and Ritchie can’t make a claim if they’re going to continue giving away idiotic penalties. Brown in particular should really have learned his lesson by now, mainly that Earls will dive on to the floor if given even half a chance.
I don’t know what will happen with the law interpretations, it surely can’t go ignored how dull things are at the moment. But whatever happens we need to adapt. We’re not built for a thunderous forward game and we seem pretty poor at the old kick and clap. Townsend can’t blame our inept attack entirely on the state of the laws at the moment.
