Good(e) point. He'll be 35 come the start of next season.

Yeah, he remain fantastically effective at club level, and is a top banana. But the legs catch up at some point; I do like him at 10, he varies his play really well and he's a natural ball player.

Saracens confirm the signing of London Irish fullback, Tom Parton, for next season.
Didnt know that was in the pipeline. Might be a very good move.
It was mentioned in passing on here a while back, but thought it'd died off.
Good move for the lad - he's very promising and could really kick on, but at Irish he was always going to suffer from, "Oh yeah, that's the one that's *not* Arundell, isn't it?"
Think he could do very well for Sarries.

At 24 you have to move beyond promising sharpish....... so fingers crossed.

Depends on the level you’re trying to reach TBH. I think Parton is a very good Premiership player. Saracens will probably make him a better player/he’ll benefit from playing in a better side, but I don’t necessarily think he’s a future England international.
That’s more of a comment on the quality of his competition than on him though.

at 24 (near 25, 5th prem season) as a back you should at or near peak and maintain for 4 or 5 years tbh. The point is I wouldn't use the term promising for too long- should be delivering, as he is a quality runner.....rest of game has not kept up. Not sure he is really established even as a very good prem player-inconsistent- and I'd hope Sarries can help rund him off.
Eddie did call him up this year tbf.

Bit harsh to say the rest of his game hasn't kept up. He's a passable all rounder but a great runner. I agree he's not international quality but Sarries are good at tightening up the skill sets of players and his running game in their new attack is going to result in a lot of tries.

well that seems to be agreement....always been a great runner, but rest of game not to that standard. If it were, he'd likely be intl quality.

I don’t think he’s inconsistent. Typically when he plays, he plays well. The issue IMO is that he seems to pick up a lot of niggly injuries.
Anyway - good player and a logical move considering Malins is off and the sun is setting in Goode.

I think we need to Parton good terms, as whenever I've seen him he's made a couple of poor decisions per game (mind not seen much this season, as he;s been in and out)

Nick Kennedy knows him really well, having coached him from 16 onwards, so the signing isn't a huge surprise. His major issue, as mentioned, has been injuries. Like Loader, he's spent a significant amount of his pro career so far on the physio table. As a result he's never had a full season to really make an impression.
Shame to see him leave, but of the guys rumoured to be possibly out the door, he's the one whose departure would have the least impact on the team. Think he'll do well at Sarries with the ball he'll get, but Arundell's the man with the shirt and we'd probably want a slightly cheaper backup than Parton may be able to land elsewhere.
In terms of his play, he's very quick/agile and will take advantage when there's space on offer. He's a good footballer who's comfortable popping up at second receiver (he actually played a lot of U18s and his first senior academy year out on loan at fly half). On the other side, he's fairly slight and can get exposed occasionally defensively when he's up against power runners. So so under the high ball too as far as full backs go.
Doesn't strike me as a player who'll ever be an established international, but that probably suits Sarries fine.

I always thought he looked very quick and a really talented runner, but looked to be iffy on decision making ball in hand when I've seen him.....but genuinely thought his running was a big USP, potential intl standard (hence the comments on rest of game). I'd think that's right on Sarries- they are probably really happy that Daly is not wanted for England's back three for some reason (he'd be well ahead of Nowell for me, for example).

Brilliant. How does that keep happening? Does he want the top job or what? Seems happy to be a defence coach, how are we not making serious moves to get him.

Is suspect he wants it on his terms and the RFU either can't or won't make that happen. Eddie has struggled to get in the coaches he wants from the Prem previously because the RFU don't want to buy out contracts anymore so that might have been a factor.

He’s probably sat in his home in Perpignan looking out at the view and thinking ‘they’ll have to stick a zero on the end of that offer to make me move’. Heard an interview with Biggar prior to the AIs who said that “he’s not short of a bob or two”…

Can you imagine telling the missus that they are leaving the South of France where he's super popular to head back home with the extra media scrutiny?
If he's settled and happy then why leave for anything else than exactly the set up you want with England.

I think he is just winding up the RFU, no intention of working with England imo, just wants to make em look silly. Bit of chase me chase me

And who would blame him given the way the RFU have pissed him off with every approach they’ve ever made.

Apparently Oghre has signed a short term deal with Tigers. Presumably replacing Horton who was on loan from the Tahs and to be fair has been very good in the PRC, shame he didn't get a go in the Prem Vs Bath when for some reason we opted for TCD. Oghre being EQ, young and talented probably means the end for TCD as well if a longer contract can be arranged.
