Re: AI Coming
We’re in a ridiculous situation with both potential depth and our injuries at centre. Are we really in a position we need to try out Harris (9th choice at best behind Jones/Dunbar/Bennett/Scott/Taylor/Horne/Vernon/Grigg?) when Dunbar is available?
I imagine I’ve had this argument with you before but I don’t know why he can’t play 13 at this level, he did last year and most of his best games have been there. If not just switch him and Jones anyway.
Interesting/scary bit on Barclay here, but it appears he’s been as careful as he possibly could, so we should be happy that he’s fit to play. He is pretty vital.

Realistically we have the Samoa game and the N.A. tour to try new faces. My preference is to try new faces in a mostly settled team rather than throwing them in a mixed side like we did with Grigg v Samoa.Mikey Brown wrote:We’re in a ridiculous situation with both potential depth and our injuries at centre. Dunbar is only just back from injury last week is he not? I don't think 13 makes best use of his skillset and I think against top teams could expose what flaws he has in his game. Plus the Jones and Hogg combination was top drawer in the 6N. The reason I am suggesting Jones/Harris is to explore for the future. Jones is a very good 12 or 13. Does Harris offer more than Grigg at the top level?
The Samoa game is also a chance to see to test out back row options at 6 and possibly 8. When our back row works it is great but in some games we lack at 6 and 8. I don't see a problem giving JB a pass for this one. We won't but we should consider it.

Pretty close to our Best team.
Congratulations to Marfo, Turner, Bhatti and Harris.

Haha, Samoa are going to get wrecked. Chris Harris hat trick off the bench.

Are we going to witness the hideous away jersey for the first time?

Agreed. Not far off the best side we could put out.Adder wrote:

Possibly out best centre combo playing in their best positions with the Jones/Hogg 13/15 combo back in place.
Only slight gripe is this may have been a chance to see a new or relatively new face in the back row like CdP starting or Hamilton but it's minor.

Has hogg had leadership roles before?

Is he VC1 or VC2? Two VCs are a nonsense how big a leadership role is it really? Russell/the 10 will still lead the backs/have a big say in decisions.OptimisticJock wrote:Has hogg had leadership roles before?

I know the 1st choice Glasgow LH is NSQ but strange to see the 4th choice Edinburgh LHP start.

George Turner on the bench? Jeez we're scraping the barrel. He has made a major error in nearly every Glasgow game he's played.

Are we going to be wearing that abomination v New Zealand as well next week? It makes me want to vomit.
Anyway, on less important matters, even if we’re struggling in a few positions, we should still be looking to put a shitload on this mob. Don’t give them any cause for hope whatsoever for the next time we meet in the RWC.

Bench uninspiring as expected but pretty happy with that. Centres (being wildly out of position) aside.

Re: AI Coming
I reckon it going to be a fairly close game , Samoa will look to run over lee Jones and Finn Russell every chance they get
Mind you Samoa seem be a disaster zone , i will have us win it by 10 but will be in the balance for the first 70

Re: AI Coming
On second looking Id say there are 10 guys starting that test that are first choice for Scotland
Id say Dunbar is behind Taylor now
Toolis is 4th choice for me behind both Grays and Swinson
Full strength backrow

Not sure I agree with either. Toolis showed a point of difference in his few caps that Swinson hasn’t ever been able to, as much as I admire his grit and work-rate.
Has Dunbar ever not been involved when available? Taylor is a strange one. In and out of the team in various positions, very erratic but seems to have a real habit of scoring tries.

If by erratic you mean injured, otherwise he's been one of our most consistent players. I would like to see him at 13 with H Jones at 12 one day.Mikey Brown wrote:Not sure I agree with either. No I meant erratic. Very erratic was probably unfair though. A bit inconsistent. Whilst good going forward he has also done some pretty strange things in defence.
In truth I’m probably only crediting the good things he’s done at about 50% of what they’re worth because of his hair.
And because I’m still massively gay for 12. Scott 13. Dunbar.

But whatever. None of the guys from the 2000s would get near the centre spots now.
